JUXTAPOZ Magazine – movie on Sage Vaughn by Ghost Story (First World Show)

Sage Vaughn has always lived among worlds: between beauty, chaos, wildness, civilization, fragility and numbers. Recently, those borders began to battle. This short film remains there, as it is reflected in the clouds between comfort and expectation, and the need to continue to move towards something less confident, but more healthy: a path that requires leaving the familiar behind, and returning with something more difficult, strange, and necessary to participate.
Ghost story: It has been leaked a little now, but when we first visited you in this video, you had this separate room, in your studio, you were exploring new ideas in it.
Hakim vonI liked the presence of both spaces. I love going out and returning inside. I think, throughout history, we look forward to these people to leave the society we have and return with a kind of insight. I feel that this is part of the functional description of the artist: to explore the short worlds of logic and return and share and expand our experience.
What raised the need to get this separate space to explore new ideas?
I was really terrified of that because I thought it was not logical to work before. I think part of it is that the part of me was a conscience. I was talking about things in this beautiful beautiful way for a long time. These other paintings that I were doing also, but they are darker … or maybe more mature.
How was an attempt to explore these other parts of yourself?
difficult. It is difficult, it is frustrating. It is really defeated to stumble while you are exploring, because it is just an attempt to move forward with something that you really don’t understand. It is a different kind of contentment when there is any progress.
This other space gave you a place to do so more freely?
It was almost this hack to deceive myself to understand something by not analyzing. I am able to make contacts mainly because I think a lot of work should be intuitive and this is done unconsciously. It is the idea of being able to talk about things without the need to pretend that there are answers.
Have you always searched for answers?
There is an art made by an artist for themselves and there is an art that artists make for others. I have always been in the second category of art made for others. And both are wonderful. Both categories produce incredible works and have their faults. For me, it was not self -exploration. It was always exploring what I found.
And share that?
As you know, I may look at this 50 years ago and realize that it was all about me all the time, but I really feel that. I love communication, and exchange. This feels more than “I am doing something about myself.”
How do you look back now?
I think that every person has a specific path that has been appointed to him, or they have allocated themselves. At some points, you realize that you are hitting this crossroads. And I think for me as an artist, I realized that it is all just a crossroads. The choice is not necessarily “Go to the left, to the right. Do it, do it.” It is the amount of participation in all of this.
