The quarter of the fame of fame, Dan Marino, recently revealed that he had been diagnosed with steatohepatitis associated with metabolic dysfunction or puree.

The legend of Miami Dolphins said that the discovery came years ago after a routine exam while he felt slow.

“Puree is a serious form of liver disease characterized by excessive accumulation of fats in the liver, combined with inflammation and damage to liver cells,” Fox News Digital Rosario Ligresti, gastroenterology chief of Hackensack University Medical Center told New Jersey.

Unlike alcoholic liver diseases or viral hepatitis, puree develops silently from daily health problems such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and blood pressure.

While Marino’s story has made the headlines, experts say that it is part of a much greater health crisis which often goes unnoticed.

As the red flags such as fatigue, jaundice, swelling or easy bruising appear, the damage can already be caused, warned the doctor.

Persistent inflammation can cause fibrosis, which can progress towards cirrhosis, a severe and irreversible scar from the liver.

According to Ligresti, approximately 1.5% to 6.5% of the world’s population is affected by this disease, and figures increase in parallel with obesity and diabetes rates.

“Although this can affect people of all ages, it is most often diagnosed in adults of middle age,” he said.

A sedentary lifestyle and a diet rich in processed foods, sugary drinks and unhealthy fats are predominant causes of the disease, although genetics can also play a role.
