The Democratic legislators of the legislatures of Texas and Indiana criticized the efforts of republican redistribution before the mid-term elections of 2026, an Indiana legislator accusing the vice-president JD Vance of being “engaged in the display flight”.
The legislators held a press conference in Chicago on Wednesday to protest against an ongoing effort in Texas to adopt a redistribution bill which would probably give the GOP five seats to the congress.
During the event, the representative of the State of Texas Gene Wu, president of Texas House Democratic Caucus, said that by fleeing the state to refuse a quorum voting to Texas House, his caucus “blocks a racist, unconstitutional and illegal effort.
He said that the Awol Democrats “also prevent the swamp of DC from dictating for whom we can vote.”

This occurs while the Governor of Texas Greg Abbott and other state authorities called for the arrest and the abolition of the Democratic legislators who have disappeared from the State and led to the cessation of legislative progress of the House of State representatives. Due to the missing democrats, the Texas Chamber was unable to adopt the redistribution bill although it was adopted in the Texas Senate on Tuesday.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Abbott said that in addition to political reactions, democratic legislators who have accepted money to help their exodus could face accusations of criminal corruption.
Now, several Democrats have planned to return to the state while Abbott calls a second special legislative session to adopt the redistribution bill.
Despite this, the Democrats claim that their efforts were a success.
Speaking on Wednesday, Wu said: “I am so happy to be here today because last week we heard of California, we heard New York, we heard Illinois, that people are ready to get up. People are ready to fight back.”

Wu called for more people to join efforts and take “more aggressive actions” to fight the GOP.
“We cannot do this alone; that it is not a fight that we can support and win by ourselves,” said Wu. “What we need is that we need more people to join us. We need more states to come to our help, and we need more people to say that we will start taking more aggressive actions, we will defend ourselves against that.”
Wu continued by saying that if Texas and other red states are “determined to do so”, then “other states will ensure that they do not do what they do, that we will cancel their actions”.
“We will make them unnecessary for them to attack our democracy,” he said.
In response, Andrew Mahaleris, spokesperson for Abbott, told Fox News Digital that “Democrats unfortunately misunderstood Texans”.
“The Texans expect their elected leaders to present themselves at work, and the Democrats refuse to do so,” said Mahaleris. “Voters, in particular the Hispanic Texans, deserve more and more Democrats and deserve to be able to vote for candidates who line up better with their values. In the end, candidates win on merits, not the card. If the Democrats have the hope of winning elections, they need to change their platform.
In the midst of this controversy, Vance also called on red states to counter what he called “aggressive” democratic gerrymandering in blue states like California, New York and Illinois.
Speaking with Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures” of Fox News last weekend, Vance said: “We are simply trying to rebalance the scales and frankly repel a very unfair system created by the Democrats.”

Vance said that the Democrats have had the upper hand in the game for many years and, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, the Republicans finally play the offense.
“It is ridiculously unfair,” he said about illegal immigrants included in the total population used to determine the number of seats that each state receives in the House of American Representatives.
“The only real way to retaliate against this is for us to redirect, in some respects, as aggressively as these hard blue states have done it,” he added.
On Wednesday, the representative of the state of Indiana, Ed Delaney, a democrat serving in a majority republican legislature, accused Vance of engaging in the “display flight at the level of the congress”.
“JD Vance, in my opinion, and I am serious about this, the man is engaged in the flight level of the Congress level, and I repeat. This is what he does,” said Delaney.
“Never in my life, I have thought that the vice-president of the United States would come in my state to ask our legislators to make the display of a Congress district like this, to steal them from the shelf, to run outside and to shake them in front of the country. We cannot have this kind of conduct,” he said.

Delaney said that “this game you know, ritual gerrymandering” endangers “mutual respect for our state’s legislature and Texas and other states”.

He continued by saying: “If these idiots get their wish, what happens if they lose one of these five breeds of the Congress? Oh my god, let’s have another redistribution next year. This must be arrested.”
He continued by saying that the Democrats of Texas “are the people who will try to stop him,” adding “, I know how difficult it is, but we must support them and hold with them. Otherwise, our people will be subject to constantly evolving districts, none of which are representative.”
Fox News Digital also contacted the Vance office to comment, but did not immediately hear.
