Jade Melbourne of Mystics loses the tooth before after the elbow of Chelsea Gray

Washington mystics Goalkeeper and Olympic medalist Jade Melbourne lost part of a tooth before taking a wild elbow in the mouth during Thursday evening’s victory over the Aces of Las Vegas.

Melbourne was injured in the first quarter when she tried to pass a screen from As Guard Chelsea Gray.

Gray elbow has established direct contact with Melbourne’s mouth and leaned in pain. A tooth seemed to fall on the ground.

A bloody Melbourne was removed from the field, and although she stayed away for the rest of the match, she joined her team on the bench. Gray was evaluated a blatant fault.

Mystical coach Sydney Johnson said after the match that Melbourne needed points, Yahoo Sports reported.

Despite the initial shock of the injury, Melbourne appeared in a good mood after the match. Georgia Amoore teammate shared a message On Instagram who showed Melbourne smiling with a bloody mouth and a chipped tooth and two inches.

Melbourne, an Australian basketball player who won a bronze medal in 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, is on average 6.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists this season.

It was not immediately clear if it would miss an additional time due to the injury on Thursday.

The mystics won a 94-83 victory even without Melbourne and the team’s top scorer, Brittney Sykes, who was sidelined for the second consecutive match with a lower leg injury.

The WNBA has seen an increase in physical games this season. The star of Indiana Fever, Caitlin Clark, was receiving several of these games, but Melbourne’s injury ranks among the most serious on Thursday.
