The candidate of the Prosecutor General Democratic of Virginia dodged a possible prison sentence to drive 116 MPH by recording 1,000 hours of community service – half with his own political action committee and the rest with the NAACP – after repeated delays from the courts, according to documents obtained by Fox News Digital.

The documents show that the old del. Jay Jones, D-Norfolk, was surprised driving 116 mph on Interstate 64 in New Kent, Virginia-halfway between Richmond and Newport News.

As a general rule, leading to a prison sentence of one year, Jones received several postponements from his hearing date for various reasons attested before a judge accepts to accept 1,000 hours finished in community service instead of a more strict sanction.

In January 2024, the Jones political action committee, meeting our moment (mom) – which says that it recruits and trains minority democratic candidates to present themselves for virginie offices – and the Virginia du NAACP chapter attested Jones carried out 500 hours of community service.

Maman’s letter is signed by Lesley Shinbaum Stewart, who identified as “executive director”. The reports also described Shinbaum Stewart as the “unofficial personnel chief” of Jones as recently as 2021.

The recordings shared with Fox News Digital have shown that the Jones campaign has paid more than $ 100,000 from the Shinbaum Stewart consulting company since 2020, and that a few days after the letter was deposited, Jones made an additional payment of $ 6,000.

Shinbaum Stewart could not be reached immediately, and the Jones campaign did not respond to several requests.

The community service ordered by the Virginia States Tribunal may include unpaid work for a non -profit or governmental organization, with a familiar source wondering if mother’s recording as a CAP meets this requirement.

The Reverend Cozy Bailey, writing on behalf of the NAACP in the second letter, said that the 500 hours of work from Jones there “provided support in various ways that have benefited our organization enormously.”

The documents did not contain time sheets to check the hundreds of hours of service with one or the other group, and Fox News Digital asked the lawyer of the lawyer for the New Kent County Commonwealth if there are such files.

New Kent Commonwealth’s lawyer Scott Adreick said the Jones affair had taken place towards the COVVI-19 pandemic restrictions and opinion from Virginia.

Numerous accused found guilty of traffic and other minor offenses were directed to community service instead of prison, due to factors such as compulsory tests, the size of installations and concerns related to the pandemic.

Rennick said New Kent gets much more cases relating to reckless speed and driving than others in the region due to the direct nature of the I -64 through the rural county – which plays in these considerations.

He also said that it often belonged to a defendant’s lawyer to check the hours placed with the court as a community service.

A source familiar with the situation noted that the 1,000 hours of Jones would also be added to almost 20 hours per week over a year for a very busy figure which served a certain time as a prosecutor of the Ministry of Justice during the Biden administration.

This role was referenced in one of the many legal documents obtained by Fox News Digital who asked the New Kent court to postpone his court dates one after the other for various reasons before his lawyer sends the two letters to the court as proof of service.

Jones had kept a law firm Norfolk where he had been a lawyer before moving to public practice in Washington at the time of the case.

Two days before appearing before a judge for the first time on the imprint accusation of conduct, Jones informed the court through the lawyer Andrew Protogyrou, there had been an understanding with the court that “no one needed to appear” that day and that the case would be postponed until April 26.

A few days before this next judicial date, another letter obtained by Fox News Digital indicated that the parties had agreed to move the hearing to July.

After a lawyer underwent a death in the family, the hearing date was transferred to October.

Before the date of October, Jones wrote to the court that his American assistant lawyer then for the Columbia district “requires (his) physical presence” in Washington on the day of the trial – the future candidate providing information from his direct supervisor as a safeguard.

The next postponement date was December 5, for which a delay was requested due to the called of Jones’ woman out of the city and the needs in childcare that resulted.

On January 23, 2023, a Protogyrou letter – which had appeared during the trial of another customer at that time – submitted the two letters to the court attesting to the Jones community service for his PAC and for the NAACP.

In addition, Jones paid $ 1,601 in fines and a document seen by Fox News Digital has shown that “Jerrauld Charles Corey Jones” had taken an eight -hour online course at that time.

Fox News Digital contacted Mom, Virginia NAACP, Jones campaign and Protogyrou company for an additional comment.
