The Italian government, under the new legislation, would tighten controls on the supply of medical treatment between the sexes for minors, according to a bill.
The law was adopted by the Italian cabinet late Monday on Monday, but is still subject to the approval of the Parliament. The government said that the law was necessary to “protect the health of minors” and introduce “effective data monitoring”.
The measure would regulate drugs such as puberty blockers and female or masculinized hormones for people under the age of 18 who suffer from gender dysphoria.

Under the bill, these drugs would only be provided by protocols who have not yet been written by the Ministry of Health and while waiting for this, after the approval of a National Committee for Pediatricians.
The measure also establishes a national register of the Italian drug agency to monitor “the correct use of (CES) drugs” and collect the medical history of each transgender person during treatment.
The bill sparked demonstrations by defenders of transgender rights.

The bill could still be rejected or modified by Parliament, although it is probably approved, since the coalition of Meloni has a solid majority and supports its objectives.
