The Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, swears that “the doors of diplomacy will never close” following the air strikes of the Trump administration – a statement that an Iranian expert says Téhéran tries to buy time.

Abbas Araghchi was quoted as CBS News after President Donald Trump told journalists last Wednesday that the United States would meet Iranian officials this week.

“I don’t think negotiations will restart as quickly as it,” added Araghchi. “For us to decide to re -enclose, we will first have to make sure that America will not amount to targeting us in a military attack during the negotiations. And I think that with all these considerations, we still need more time.”

Behnam Ben Taleblu, the main director of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies Iran, told Fox News Digital on Tuesday that “the strongest weapon in Tehran when it is weak is in fact diplomacy.

“Negotiate to buy time and bail out the regime is an art form for Iranian political elites. Even when made from a weak position, one of the reasons why Tehran will not close the talks is because it seeks to prevent the widening of the military action from stiffening the spine of domestic dissidents at home.

“Without a doubt, the Islamic Republic will cause a heckling on negotiations after strike, but ultimately, agreeing to speak when it was conventionally beaten on the battlefield means that its mission is accomplished,” added Taleblu.

Trump said following the conclusion of a NATO summit in the Netherlands last week that “I could obtain a statement” that Iran “will not become nuclear”.

“We are probably going to ask that … But they won’t do it anyway. They got it,” said Trump.

“We are going to speak to them next week, with Iran. We can sign an agreement, I don’t know. For me, I don’t think it’s necessary. I mean, they have had a war. They have fought. Now, they go back to their world. I don’t care if I don’t have an agreement or not. But we have destroyed nuclear,” Trump also said.

“If we get a document, it would not be bad. We will meet them. In fact, we will meet them,” continued the president.

However, Trump then wrote on Truth Social Monday that he is not talking to Iran.

“The administration and namely our special envoy, Steve Witkoff, was in communication directly and indirectly with the Iranians. This communication continues. The president himself did not speak to Iran, which he underlined in his declaration of truth,” added the secretary of the White House Karoline Leavitt on Monday.
