The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar described the attack on “cheeky assault”, but said that it had managed to intercept Iranian missiles.

“We are not launching the war or want it; but we will not leave the aggression against #Geateran unanswered. We will be to the security of this #Belovednation with all our being and will respond to each injury on the body of Iran with faith, wisdom and determination,” he wrote on X.

But Iran would have given managers and those responsible for Qatari and in advance of the attacks. It would be a strategy similar to the response to the murder of the Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, where Iran needed to respond symbolically without degenerating the conflict beyond what it could manage.

A spokesperson for the Iranian armed forces said that his revolutionary guard body had led the attack: “We warn our enemies that the Hit and Run era is over.”

Kuwait, Iraq, Bahrain and the water all closed their air spaces in the middle of the attack.
