HUD implements a policy in English only for all the commercial operations of the department

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) moves to make English the only language used for all agency activities, Secretary Scott Turner said on Tuesday.

This decision complies with President Donald Trump’s executive decree in March to make English the official language of the United States.

“Following the executive order of @potus designating English as the official language of the United States, HUD will only use English for all ministerial companies and services,” wrote Turner on Tuesday on X. “We are a single people, United, and we will speak with a single voice and a language to deliver our mission.”

In a memo sent on Monday, the assistant secretary of the HUD, Andrew Hughes, advised the management of the Department of Changes, the New York Post reported.

“We are a single people, united, and we will speak with one voice and a language to deliver our mission to expand affordable housing, to help those who need it, to take care of our most vulnerable Americans and to revitalize rural, tribal and urban communities,” he wrote.

Hud had previously praised that he welcomed around 222 languages and had a line of interpretation for people unable to speak in English with competence, post.

Despite the quarter of work, Hud will make accommodation to offer other languages required under the Americans Act with Disability and the Act respecting violence against women.

“HUD will continue to ensure that everyone has significant access to HUD programs and services,” said Hughes, saying that the ministry “will also continue to provide communication services to the hearing and the vision of disorders, and related people.”

In previous years, HUD has made efforts to provide services in various languages to low -income immigrants who do not competent in English.

In March, Trump published an executive decree which revoked an order made in 2000 by the former president Bill Clinton This required that federal agencies and federal funding beneficiaries provide linguistic assistance to non -English speakers.

Although English is the dominant language spoken in the United States, the United States has never had an official language.
