A medieval castle hit the market near one of the busiest cities in Italy, although it is delivered with a few warnings.

The Château de Landriano, listed by Sotheby’s International Realty, is about 15 miles southeast of Milan.

The Château de Lombardie dates back to the 11th century. It has 10 bedrooms, 10 complete bathrooms and covers more than 102,000 square feet.

The archaeological discoveries of the 6th century, she said, were discovered on the property.

“The first written mention of the castle itself dates from 1037, when Emperor Conrad II destroyed him during his war against Milan,” said Giorgolo.

The medieval elements, including a central courtyard, towers and fortified doors, were built between the 11th and 13th centuries.

“It is not only a property – a chapter of 1000 years in European history is waiting to be reborn.”

In 1531, the castle passed from a military fortress in Renaissance residence.

This renovation added fresco rooms, a large staircase and refined residential characteristics.

The structure also played a role in the battle of Landriano in 1529, added Giorgolo, who was part of the Cognac League war.

“Visitors can always see medieval terracotta arches, Gothic windows and Renaissance courses with Tuscan columns,” she said.

“Inside there are remarkable spaces such as the Amorini room, the Hall of Music and the private Stooliolo of the Taverna family, with frescoes attributed to the Tibaldi school.”

“Although the property requires a complete restoration, it remains a sleeping giant – one of the few opportunities to acquire and relaunch such an important song in European history,” said Giorgolo.

“The castle embodies almost 1,000 years of stratum history within its walls.”

The castle is “wrapped in folklore”.

As an additional twist, the castle is also “wrapped in folklore”, according to Giorgolo.

“A local legend tells Giannetta, a 16th century herbalist accused of witchcraft and burned on the stake in the square outside the castle. The inhabitants always whisper that his voice and its shadow haunt the corridors,” she noted.

The castle therefore recounts “two parallel stories”.
