Defense secretary Pete Hegseth announced that a navy oil tanker named after the chief of homosexuals, Harvey Milk, will be renamed by Medal of Honor recipient, Oscar V. Peterson.
“We are removing the policy of the denomination of the ship,” he wrote on X with a video announcing the move.
Milk was the first openly gay politician in California, who was shot in the town hall of San Francisco by the former San Francisco supervisor Dan White. The ship, a fleet replenishment oil, was initially appointed according to him in 2016 under President Barack Obama.

He served four years in the Navy during the Korean War, but left for his sexuality.
Peterson received the medal of honor after his death, having died of his wounds during the battle during the Second World War in an act of sacrifice of self-skew that saved lives.
“People want to be proud of the ship in which they sail,” HegSeth said about change. “We are not rejoining the ship to nothing political. These are not political activists, unlike the previous administration.”

On May 7, 1942, Neosho was seriously damaged during the Battle of the Corail Sea. Peterson and other members of his repair group were seriously injured, but Peterson managed to close four partition steam valves. He has undergone third degree burns in the process, but the move maintained the ship afloat. On May 11, USS Henley saved 123 survivors from Neosho and Peterson died two days later from his injuries.

When the move was reported for the first time earlier this month, representative Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Called the decision “the shameful and vindictive erasure of those who fought to break the barriers so that everyone continues the American dream”.
“While the rest of us celebrates the month of the joy of pride, I hope that the navy will reconsider this flagrant decision,” Pelosi said in a statement.
