The chief of the Hakeem Jeffries House minority demands President Donald Trump and his senior officials “justify” the recent strikes of the American army in Iran.
“We have not seen any evidence to date that an offensive strike of this nature has been justified under the law on war powers or the Constitution,” said Jeffries.
“But all the reason for the Trump administration to undertake this process is to come to Capitol Hill and convince the American people and their elected officials in the House and the Senate. This did not happen.”
Trump officials argued that the strike was in accordance with the law on war powers, which forces the White House to inform the Congress within 48 hours of military action and blocks this operation to continue for more than 60 days without approval from the legislators.

Jeffries said he had not seen “a sparkle of evidence to date” which shows “that there was an imminent threat to the United States of America”.
“If the administration has evidence of the opposite, come and present it. We are not difficult to find. I am not hiding,” he said.

Meanwhile, Jeffries asked several questions about these calls for dismissal during his press conference, rather reaffirms his request that Trump officials be before the Congress.
“A tool that is on the table at the moment is to continue to demand that the administration will appear before the American Congress and plead for the American people to explain why this extraordinary step was taken. This is the first step,” said Jeffries.
“The second step concerns the resolution of war powers, whether the one that has already been introduced or others who can subsequently be introduced, so that these resolutions are debated on the floor of the room, as should already happen. And then we will see where we are later.”
Relying again on the fact that he was taking calls for the accusation of Trump seriously, Jeffries said: “This is a dangerous moment in which we are, and we have to pass through what is before us. And what is before us at the moment, is that the Trump administration has the responsibility of coming to Congress, justifying the actions for which we have not seen any evidence to justify his offensive force in Iran.”

“The White House called the Leadership of the Congress. They were bipartite calls. In fact, Hakeem Jeffries could not be joined. We tried it before the strike, and he did not get the phone, but he was informed after, as well as at the Senate minority strike,” said Levitt.
“We have given these calls as a courtesy, and the Democrats lie on this subject, because they cannot speak of the truth of the success of this operation and the success of our military in the United States and the success of this president and this administration by doing something that the administrations passed – the Democrats as – have only dreamed.”
