Gun Group supported Virginia Ag’s candidate who sent a text about the shooting of the GOP legislator

A democratic candidate, who is in hot water on texts revealing his desire to shoot a GOP legislator, previously received approval and a considerable gift from one of the most important firearm control groups in the country.
The candidate General of the Attorney General of Virginia, Jay Jones, alongside the candidate for Governor Abigail Spanberger, received $ 200,000 from EveryTown for firearms in August, Campaign financing records Examined by Fox News Digital Show.
Jones faced calls to abandon the race after a National exam report Text messages exhibited in 2022 where Jones compared one of his republican colleagues, the former president of the Chamber of Virginia, Todd Gilbert, in Hitler and Pol Pot and said that if he received two bullets, he would use both against the GOP legislator.
Jones also made comments suggesting his desire to see violence occur against Gilbert’s young children.

EveryTOWN for firearms safety Jones approved in June.
“Ghazala Hashmi and Jay Jones are champions of sense of firearms, and we are proud to approve them today,” said John Feinblatt, president of EveryTown for firearms, in a press release at the time.
“The prevention of armed violence is a winning problem in Virginia, and Everytown will do everything to ensure that voters know which candidates make public security an absolute priority.”

Fox News Digital contacted EveryTown for the safety of firearms by asking whether their approval is still held or if they plan to ask for their donation but have not received an answer.
The Republicans across the country, including President Donald Trump, called Jones to leave the race, but the Democrats of Virginia have so far been united behind Jones.

Jones apologized sinceCalling the “embarrassing and shameful” remarks, and said he had personally contacted Gilbert and his family.
Fox News Digital contacted the Jones campaign to comment.
Spanberger, presenting himself to the governor in one of the most closely watched races in the country, condemned Jones’ messages but stopped calling him to withdraw from the race.
