President Donald Trump reported that he could get around the congress to extend his takeover of the Washington, DC, police and certain Congress Republicans take into account the call.

Senator Roger Marshall, R-Kan., Said he would vote to extend Trump’s authority but did not think that the Senate Democrats would move and support the president to give the president more time.

“I am absolutely in favor of President Trump doing everything he needs,” Marshall told Fox News Digital. “Of course, we want to follow the Constitution, and I have to go back and read what he can do and not do, but I think it will take a threshold of 60 vote in the Senate to adopt this resolution.”

The provision allows the president to effectively federate local police forces up to 30 days, unless the congress, by a joint resolution, grants him an extension. But questions remain as to whether this type of resolution would reach the typical threshold of 60 Senate vote or if it could go through a simple majority.

Trump invoked a section of the rules of the domicile rules on Monday which governs the district to give himself the power to take control of the metropolitan police service and has since sent troops from the National Guard, alongside FBI and DEA agents, to patrol the streets.

Republicans control 53 seats in the upper room, which means that Democrats may be necessary to grant Trump an extension beyond the 30-day window. But Trump, at a press conference on Wednesday announcing the winners of the New Kennedy Center, said that he would ask for “long -term extensions” and thought that the Democrats would “do nothing to stop crime”.

Trump also noted that he might not need the congress.

“Well, if it is a national emergency, we can do it without the congress,” said Trump. “But we expect to be … before the congress, very quickly.

“We are going to do it very quickly, but we will want extensions,” he added. “I do not want to call a national emergency. If I have to, I will, but I think that the Republicans at the Congress will approve him almost unanimously.”

Chairman of the Chamber’s Supervisory Committee, James Comer, whose committee oversees the district, enthusiastically argued Trump’s decision to take control of the DC police forces on Monday. When asked by Fox News Digital if he would support the Trump Congress who was moving to continue his grip on the local police, a spokesman said: “We support the president’s actions to complete the mission.”

The two leaders of the majority of the Senate John ThuneRs.d., and the president of the Mike Johnson Chamber, R-La., Initially supported the president’s decision to repress crime in the district, which was stimulated by a recent attack on a former staff member of the Government Ministry (DOGE).

When he was asked for comments on Trump’s latest remarks concerning an extension, Thune’s office referred Fox News Digital to his previous statement on social networks in which the GOP chief praised the administration’s decision.

“Washington, DC, should be a place where people can live safely, visit, work and raise a family, and the announcement (Monday) is a positive step in this direction,” he said.

Fox News Digital contacted Johnson’s office to comment but did not hear.

A clearer image of the presentation of the legislators will probably have to wait, since they are outside the city in their respective states and districts for a large part of the 30 -day window. But the problem will probably be in mind when they come back after the Labor Day.

However, Trump already has public support from the Republicans for extending his deadline.

Senator Jim Banks, R-Ind., Told Fox News Digital in a statement that he had fully supported “President Trump’s plan to make DC again safely and would safeguard his efforts in the Senate”.

And Senator Mike Lee, who has a bill that would repeal the domicile rule law and federalize the district, would also support the extension of the 30 -day window “,” with the ultimate goal of working with him to adopt the Bowser law and restore the complete surveillance of the City Congress “.

“The security and mental health of the capital of our country should not depend on having good presidents in the oval office, but I am happy that we have one now,” the Utah republican at Fox News Digital said in a statement.
