New York GOP legislator accuses Democratic leaders in its state of having a hypocritical response to redistribution efforts in Texas and other red states.

Representative Mike Lawler, RN.Y., one of the three Republicans of the country’s House which won a district that President Donald Trump lost in 2024, expressed his opposition to the war of increasing redistribution across the United States

“I think that, of course, in all areas, you know, I do not agree with this effort,” Lawler told Fox News Digital of the push in red and blue states. “But I think we also have to look at this in a holistic way – New York did the redistribution in mid -December last year.”

“So, for (Governor) Kathy Hochul and the Democrats like (leader of the house minority) Hakeem Jeffries and (leader of the Senate minority) Chuck Schumer to denounce what is happening in Texas, they are full of s —. They literally did it last year.”

The method for drawing Congress cards varies between states, some relying more on their state legislatures, while others – like New York – are counting on the advice of independent organizations called redistribution commissions.

The bipartite redistribution commission of the State Empire approved a new card in early 2024 which largely assigned three seats in the Congress in the North and the center of New York – including two from red to blue in the elections of last year, while the third remained in democratic hands.

He came after the highest court in the New York State court ordered that the new Congress cards for the 2024 elections, in what was considered a major victory for the Democrats, after having lost a certain number of seats in mid-term of 2022.

Since then, two of these seats have returned to blue in last year’s races, although they have not seen any significant change in the last warming.

“New York revised its cards, obtaining a false court order to do so after stamping the court of appeal … in order to collect five seats. They picked up four,” said Lawler, referring to the four seats in total that the Democrats won in 2024 that they lost in 2022.

“So, so that they act as if they were holy than you and they did not do this first is laughable. And when you look at Texas, you know they can do so. New York cannot legally. And that’s the difference.”

Lawler, however, warned that the growing reduction fight could have negative implications for representation across the country.

“When you look at these seats in the congress, I mean, they have become so hyperpartisians that there are very few districts that are really competitive,” he said.

“I think that the most important point is that the American people should want more competitive races, because they force the members of the Congress to ensure that they use a wider band of voters in their districts. If they only have to worry about a primary to be elected, then they only play at the base instead of the larger environment.”

Lawler said he would soon present a bill to ban the national gerrymandering on a national scale, as part of a wider set aimed at solving what he considered as long -standing problems with the Congress.

“There are also other reforms within the framework of these which, in my opinion, are essential, including the limits of terms for the members of the Congress. And, you know, when you talk about the census, you know, illegal immigrants should not be counted as part of the census – the permanent legal residents and the legislators, you know, the visa holders, illegal should not be, “said Lawler.

“I think most Americans agree with this. There are therefore a number of provisions that will be part of the legislation I put in place.”

When he was contacted to comment on the criticism of Lawler, Viet Shelton, spokesperson for the campaign committee of the Democrat Congress (DCCC), told Fox News Digital: “We know that Lawler does not care to bend my knee to Donald Trump, but he forgot that Trump demanded the republicans of Texas to restart their congress.”

The interview occurs while Texas is preparing to adopt a new Congress card which could give the Republicans up to five new seats in mid-term in 2026.

California leaders are committed to putting pressure on so that new cards give Democrats a corresponding advantage, while a multitude of states on both sides, including New York, report that they do not make similar movements either.

Fox News Digital contacted the spokespersons of Jeffries, Schumer and Hochul to comment but did not hear.
