The Republican leaders of the Senate convinced senator Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, to vote in favor of “Big, Beau Bill” by President Donald Trump with a series of expenditure initiatives for his original state.
Negotiations on the bill extended at the eleventh hour before the bill was adopted on Tuesday, Murkowski opposing the legislation until it obtains clean energy tax credits, insurance of oil drilling leases and other priorities for its state. She was seen walking in the Senate soil with a coverage and holding a notebook in the last hours of the Senate “vote-a-rama”.
“I kept my head and I made sure that the inhabitants of Alaska are not forgotten in this area, but I think there is no more to do, and I am not finished,” Murkowski told journalists after the vote. “I’m going to take a nap, however.”
“What I tried to do is make sure that my colleagues understood what it means when you live in an area where there is no jobs, it is not a cash saving,” she added. “And so I needed help, and I worked to get it every day.”

The head of the majority of the Senate, John Thune, may have obtained Murkowski’s vote earlier, if not for the Senate parliamentarian, who canceled several sweeteners aimed at Alaska. The Senate adopted Trump’s bill as part of the reconciliation process, which requires only a simple majority. The parliamentarian has the power to determine whether certain line elements do not fall under the scope of budget reconciliation, thus requiring a majority of 60 vote.

However, some of the sweeteners have succeeded, in particular by authorizing a temporary delay on cost increases for food aid programs in Hawaii and Alaska. Murkowski also obtained the abolition of a tax provided on solar and wind energy projects.

“(Murkowski) is someone who studies the problems really, very hard and well,” Thune told politico. “I am just grateful that in the end, she concluded what the rest of us did … It was that it was the right direction for the future of our country.”

Although Trump’s bill has authorized the Senate, it now faces an uncertain future in the House of Representatives, where many conservative legislators have criticized the lack of discounts.

The president of the Chamber, Mike Johnson, directed the Republicans by adopting a vote of procedural “rule” to set up the legislation of day overnight. The speaker cannot afford to lose three republican votes while adopting the bill. Two have already confirmed their opposition to the adoption of the version of the Senate of the bill: the representative Chip Roy, R-Texas and the representative Ralh Norman, Rs.C.
