New York, Ny – While he presents himself for the mayor in the city of New York dominated by the Democrats, the Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa says he is on a mission.
“I have to beat Zohran Mamdani to save this city,” said Sliwa in a digital interview with Fox News this week.
Mamdani, the legislator of the 33 -year -old Democratic Socialist State from the New York Du Queens district, sent political shock waves across the country in June when he passed the former governor Andrew Cuomo and nine other candidates to seize the appointment to the mayor of the Democratic Party.
But with Cuomo – the former governor with three mandates who resigned in 2021 in the midst of several scandals – who still presents himself in the general elections as an independent candidate, and the outgoing Democratic mayor Eric Adams also presents himself as an independent victory, Sliwa considers a path to victory in a city where the victories of the Ballot de Gop are rare.

“Zohran is the Democratic candidate, but there are two other Democrats in this breed, well -known Democrats, Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo, and they are Zohran’s light because they actually agree on questions than in disagreement,” said Sliwa.
And Sliwa showed that “I am the only republican candidate. I have republican values”.
Almost all recent surveys in the New York mayor’s race indicate that Mamdani has a healthy two -digit lead on Cuomo and the other contenders in the general elections in November, when he aims to become the first Muslim and first mayor of the generational of the most populous city in the country.
Battle for the mayor of New York: Mamdani competes to deviating against abandonment
Jim Walden, a former federal prosecutor, presents himself as independent.
Walden earlier this summer, proposed that an independent investigation be conducted in September to determine which candidate would have the best blow to defeat Mamdani, the other candidates agreeing to abandon.
While Cuomo partially adopted the proposal, Adams and Sliwa did not sign.

“I do not give up. I am a big party candidate. Let the self -employed play musical chairs and decide who abandon,” said Sliwa.
Sliwa, who gained notoriety in the 1970s and 1980s as a co-founder of the Guardian Angels, the non-profit crime prevention organization that patrols the city’s metro, and who later appreciated careers on television and radio, is the candidate of the GOP GOP for a second consecutive election.
But he said that he had not spoken with President Donald Trump, from New York, or members of the president’s political team.

“No, I had no conversation with President Donald Trump, whom I know over the years. We have had a romantic relationship. Everyone knows it,” said Sliwa.
Trump and the Republicans sometimes targeted Mamdani, the president saying that he was a “communist”. This is part of an effort of the GOP to link Mamdani and its far left proposals to the Democrats across the country, as part of the party’s long -standing effort to try to represent Democrats as extremists.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Justice rejected the federal accusations of corruption against Adams, so the mayor could potentially work with the Trump administration on his illegal immigration repression.
And earlier this month, the New York Times reported that Trump and Cuomo had discussed the town hall race during a telephone call, a conversation that the former governor NIE took place.
“I understand that (Trump) has a relationship with Andrew Cuomo who extends over the years, and he prevented Eric Adams from going to prison, so he is communicated with them, which is good for me,” said Sliwa.
But he urged the president to “be Switzerland, to be neutral” with regard to the race of the mayor of New York.
And Sliwa underlined the armed conflict of almost two years in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.
“I think that the way the president can best help in this campaign is to try to bring peace to Gaza between Israel and Hamas, because every day, war is raging, there is a good day for Zohran Mamdani. Because of the videos we see, photographs, this is an impact on people here in New York.”
Sliwa has been recognizable in New York for decades, partly due to its red brand beret.
But he has taken it more and more in recent months, because he is a second time for the mayor.

“It’s a bifurcated Curtis Sliwa,” he told Fox News. “When I am in the metro, as if I will be in a few hours, where I do most of my campaign with average daily people … or I am on the street, I will wear the beret. It is in honor of six guardian angels killed in the exercise of the world, three dozen people seriously injured on 46 years of volunteer service here and all over the world.
But Sliwa added: “I realize among the people of the company who take determinations, they feel more comfortable when I remove my beret.”
