With the mid-term elections of 2026 in more than a year, a new Fox News investigation reveals that although the Republican Party has lost ground in favor of the Democratic Party to deal with key questions, voters are more likely to think that the GOP has a clear plan to deal with the country’s problems.

The survey, published Thursday, reveals that by a margin of 10 points, more voters think that Republicans have a clear plan for the United States than Democrats: 43% against 33%. However, majorities feel neither the GOP (54%) nor the Democrats (64%) have a plan. It was about where the feeling was three years ago, the last time the question was asked.

Much more republicans (79%) than Democrats (51%) are convinced that their party has a clear plan, and this is what harms Democrats. While at least two -thirds of the self -employed feel that none of the parties have a plan, no more GOP confidence (30% against 25%).

At the same time, the survey shows significant erosion in the management by the GOP of key problems compared to the last time that Fox asked in 2023, including in the fields where they are traditionally preferred.

Voters consider the republican party as better capable of managing national security (by 14 points), immigration (+ 6R) and public spending (+ 5R) while the Democratic Party is favored on climate change (by 23 points), health care (+ 19D), Social Security (+ 17D), education (+ 15D) and energy policies (+ 6D).

The parties are almost also evaluated on inflation (+ 1D), firearms policy (even), economy (+ 1R) and foreign policy (+ 3R).

Compared to 2023, support for the GOP is down on immigration of 4 points, national security of 6 years, public spending of 6, the 9 -year -old foreign policy and the economy of 14. In addition, the advantage of the Republicans at 12 points on inflation has disappeared, because Democrats have an advantage of one point today.

Although Democrats have largely maintained the support of their best questions, it should be noted that they have seen an increase of 12 points in education, because the voters have been divided on which the better manages the problem in recent years.

These quarters of work can be mainly attributed to self-identified democrats joining their preference for the management of their own problems of problems, as well as the self-employed reducing their support for the Republicans or passing to the Democrats.

Self-identified republicans continue to express high levels of support for their party on issues.

“The self -employed and even some Democrats had embittered President Biden and the Democratic Congress by 2023 and 2024, but they moved a little to the left in 2025 in response to the policy of President Trump and the Republicans,” said Republican survey Daron Shaw, who leads the Fox News Survey with Democrat Chris Anderson. “An appreciable part of this is linked to the performances. Without obvious victories of economic and foreign policy, the self -employed and the sweet democrats could derive to the left, which could blur the electoral dynamics in 2026.”

Overall, the opinions of the two main political parties are underwater. In 2 points, the republican party has a slightly better favorable note (44% favorable) than the Democratic Party (42%), but more than half consider the two negative parts (56% and 57% unfavorable, respectively). It has been relatively unchanged since April.

Positive opinion of the Republican Party have shown regular growth since October 2019, while the Democratic Party has been on a downward trajectory, reaching a record hollow in April (41% favorable).

The Republican Party benefits from greater support among their party’s followers (83% have a favorable opinion) than the Democratic Party (78% favorable). Seven out of 10 independents have a negative vision of the two.

Directed from July 18 to 21, 2025, under the direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News survey includes interviews with a sample of 1,000 voters registered at random in a national voter file. The respondents maintained themselves with live interviewers on fixed lines (114) and mobile phones (636) or completed the survey online after receiving a text (250). The results based on the full sample have a sampling error margin of ± 3 percentage points. The sampling error for the results between the subgroups is higher. In addition to the sampling error, the wording of the question and the order can influence the results. Weights are generally applied to age, race, education and area variables to ensure that the demography of respondents is representative of the registered electoral population. Sources to develop weight objectives include the American Community Survey, Fox News Voter Analysis and voter file data.
