Larry Summers, former President Bill Clinton’s Treasury secretary, maintained regular contact with Jeffrey Epstein years after he was convicted of prostitution-related charges, documents released Wednesday by House Republicans revealed.

Among the more than 20,000 pages of documents released by House Republicans were a series of email exchanges spanning 2016 to 2019 between Epstein and Summers, suggesting a warmer relationship between the two than previously thought. The email exchanges include jokes about an unknown woman as well as discussions about politics and President Donald Trump.

On March 3, 2019, just months before his arrest, Epstein and Summers, who also served as president of Harvard University from 2001 to 2006 and director of former President Obama’s National Economic Council from 2009 to 2011, exchanged emails in which they discussed Summers’ correspondence with an unknown woman.

In an email to Epstein, Summers wrote about his interaction with the woman, saying, “We spoke on the phone. Then ‘I can’t talk later’. I don’t think (sic) I’ll be able to talk tomorrow.” I said what are you doing. She said “I’m busy.” I said you’re terribly shy. And then I said. Did you really rearrange the weekend we were going to be together because guy number 3 was coming? She said no, her schedule had changed after we changed our plans. I said ok, I have to go and call me whenever you feel like it. The tone was not good feeling. I don’t want to enter a giveaway contest while being a friend without benefits.”

Epstein responded a few minutes later saying, “She’s smart. She makes you pay for past mistakes. Ignore the daddy, I’m going to date the motorcycle guy, you reacted well..annoyed, shows attention., no complaints showed strength.”

A few months before, in November 2018, Summers forwarded Epstein an email from a woman he had corresponded with with the comment: “I think no response for a while is probably appropriate.”

Epstein replied: “She’s already starting to look needy 🙂 nice.”

On July 15, 2018, Epstein emailed Summers: “New York soon?

“I’m not sure. What’s up” Summers replied.

The next day, Epstein wrote: “we will marry the president (sic) of the United Nations, a person of interest to you.”

Shortly after midnight, Summers responded: “Do the Russians have information on Trump? Today was terrible, even by his standards. »

Epstein responded: “My email is full of similar comments… he thinks he has charmed his opponent… he has no idea about symbolism – he has no idea about most things.”

In another 2017 exchange, Epstein wrote: “I’ve met some very bad people, none as bad as Trump. Not a single decent cell in his body…so yeah, dangerous.”

In an email to Epstein in November 2016, Summers wrote: “Don’t spend any effort on anything about me with Trump. Given his approach to conflicts of interest, his closeness to Putin, and his callous response to Castro’s death, I’m a million miles better off. Until they are thoroughly humiliated by the bullshit that is sure to come, I serve myself and my country better by not doing anything that implies loyalty to them. »

A month before, Epstein had emailed Summers: “Trump roles (sic) on the four Clinton accusers. Remember our dinner?” To which Summers responded a few hours later: “No. What happened? Are you about to be dragged away?”

Summers was previously known to have a connection to Epstein. The Wall Street Journal reported in 2023 on another exchange in which Summers asked Epstein for advice on fundraising for a project by his wife, Harvard professor Elisa New.
