Dr. Ben Carson, a former neurosurgeon who was secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department during the first term of President Donald Trump, was sworn in Wednesday to serve as a national nutrition, health and housing in the US agriculture department.
“As national nutrition, health and housing advisor, Dr. Carson will advise both President Trump and the Rollins secretary on nutrition -related policies, the quality of rural health care and the accessibility of housing”, a USDA press release States.
“He will serve as the main voice of the department on these questions, will join the secretary Rollins for his work on the commission of President Make America Healthy Again and joins in close collaboration with leadership in the rural development zone of the USDA.”

“Today, too many Americans suffer from the effects of poor nutrition. Thanks to the development of common sense policies, we have the opportunity to give our most vulnerable families the tools they need to flourish,” Carson said, according to the press release. “I am honored to work with secretary Rollins on these important initiatives to help make the vision of President Trump for a healthier and stronger America.”
Earlier this year, Trump signed a decree to create a commission of religious freedom and hit Carson to be vice-president.

While speaking during the founders of the American Cornerstone Institute on Saturday, Trump announced that Carson will receive the presidential medal of freedom, noting that there will be a ceremony in the White House to honor it.
The president of the time, George W. Bush, awarded Carson the Presidential Liberty Medal in 2008.

Carson, who founded the American Cornerstone Institute, “ensures that there is an organization that fights for the principles that guided it through life, and which make this country great: faith, freedom, community and life”, according to the ACI website.
