A senior French official condemned the “brutalization” of the world by “great powers” during his trip to Greenland this weekend in an apparent blow by President Donald Trump and his ambitions in the Arctic.
In the comments made by the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, of the capital of Nuuk, he declared on Sunday that his visit was a “solidarity” show and reminded international superpowers that Greenland “was not to be won” or “to sell”.
“The certainty of peace, prosperity and democracy is all questioned by the resurgence of new empires who wish to replace the logic of cooperation with the logic of coercion,” said Barrot. “This brutalization of the world can be seen even in artistic.”

Barrot, who visited a French military ship moored in Nuuk, also confirmed that French officials will return to Greenland in the fall to start ironing a new critical mineral agreement concluded in May when Nuuk granted a Danish-French consortium an agreement of 30 mines for the extraction of anorthositis for aluminum production.
While Barrot directly called the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine, he did not mention Trump or listed the United States as a major threat to European territory. Although his comments intervened only three days after Denmark summoned the chief of the United States after reports said that people close to the president have organized secret influence operations in Greenland.
Trump faced a widespread conviction on his ambitions in Greenland – which is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark – and refused to exclude military intervention to “acquire” the Arctic Nation, which, according to him, is strategically important for security reasons.

“The greatness of a nation cannot be rebuilt on the servitude of its neighbors or allies,” said Barrot. “The greatness of a nation is measured by its contribution to the freedom of the world.”
France, in particular, came to the defense of the Arctic Island, the French president Emmanuel Macron going to Greenland in June where he criticized the threats of Trump and cemented not only Paris, but also of Europe, the determination that “the territorial integrity of the island must be respected”.
Despite the international regrowth, Trump does not seem discouraged in his desire “to acquire” Greenland and according to a senior administration official “,The president thinks that Greenland is a strategically important place and is confident that the Greenlanders would be better served if they were protected by the United States from modern threats in the Arctic region.
“President Trump is committed to establishing long -term peace in the country and abroad,” added the official.

Barrot said that his “visit sends a message: Greenland and Denmark are not alone – Europe and France are standing out today and tomorrow.
“Greenland is an arctic territory, it is a European territory. We belong to the same family,” he added.
