The first case of a human screw infection associated with the trip was detected in Maryland.
Andrew Nixon, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Social Services, confirmed to Fox News Digital that the patient had recently returned from a trip to El Salvador, a country affected by an epidemic of Vis.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) worked in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Maryland to investigate the case.

It can also be transferred by ticks and mosquitoes after the fly attaches its eggs to insects, according to the source above.
In the case of an infection, a bump will develop in the tissues of the person as the larvae grow and eat flesh. It can be fatal if it is not treated at an early stage, warn health experts.

“Myasis is not common in the United States,” said the CDC on its website. “Most people diagnosed with myasis in the United States were infected during their trip to tropical areas where myasis occurs most often.”

Reuters reported last week that the CDC had confirmed a case of vis -à -vis in Maryland of a person who had traveled Guatemala.
