A former Israeli official offered a two -part strategy as “the only means” to release the remaining hostages captured by Hamas terrorists during the attacks of October 7, 2023.

“Today, in my opinion, Israel must declare that he is no longer willing to negotiate as it was. Then he must do two things simultaneously,” a former superior officer of Shin Bet told Israelié Maariv, a sister publication to Israeli The Jerusalem post.

“First of all, push as much as possible to separate the Gazans from Hamas through designated humanitarian areas,” he said. “This will also lead to the control of humanitarian aid, so that it does not reach Hamas. And secondly, because it is estimated that the locations of the hostages are known – we must make local negotiations with those who hold the hostages. Offer money and their life in exchange for hostages.”

Amrusi argued that Hamas benefits from prolonged negotiations and wondered if someone remaining in Gaza has the power to make decisions.

“An intelligent Persian merchant told me once on the market:” You will win the agreement when you are ready to lose it. “And why? For several reasons,” he said. “First, Hamas takes advantage of the trail of things. He continues to hold the key to his survival, and in the meantime, who knows what could happen? European pressure, a false famine campaign, Trump could return to Israel, internal pressure on the government. All these elements, and each one, are good for them.”

He also expressed skepticism as to the effectiveness of Qatar as a negotiation part.

“I am not sure that Qatar, the mediator, even has the ability to decide anything. And it is not even certain that they have communication with Hamas’ internal leadership for consultations and decision -making,” said Amrusi. “It is important to ask: is there someone in Gaza of Hamas who can make decisions? Who has control of those who hold the hostages? Do they even know where they are, and in what condition they are? After all, some of the hostages are not even in their hands.”

“I have always said that Hamas would release the hostages when we force them to release them,” he continued, “but we do not know how to do it. Military pressure is not applied to its entire measure, and the hands of our soldiers are quite linked. We provide humanitarian aid that gives Hamas’ life-oxygen, fuel and money.”

“Government’s constraints and fears retain the opening of immigration offices and the creation of humanitarian zones. We simply do not know how to win,” added Amrusi.

The United States and Israel withdrew their Doha negotiation teams in Qatar on Thursday.

The American special envoy Steve Witkoff said on Friday that the decision came after Hamas’s last response “clearly shows a lack of desire to reach a cease-fire in Gaza”.

“While the mediators have made a great effort, Hamas does not seem to be coordinated or acting in good faith,” wrote Witkoff on X. “We will now consider alternative options to bring the hostages back and try to create a more stable environment for the inhabitants of Gaza. It is a shame that Hamas acted in this self-factor.

In a statement published by his office, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has echoed Witkoff, saying: “Hamas is the obstacle to a hostage liberation agreement.”

“With our American allies, we are now considering alternative options to bring our hostages back to the house, put an end to the terrorist rule of Hamas and ensure lasting peace for Israel and our region,” he said.

Egypt and Qatar, which mediate the talks alongside the United States, said that the break was only temporary and that the talks will resume, although they did not say when.

Meeting with President Donald Trump on his golf course in Scotland on Monday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer came determined in the United States to play a more important role by helping to suffocate what he called a “desperate situation” in the midst of the growing reports of famine in Gaza while the War of Israel-Hamas was raging.

Trump first deplored that the United States had not obtained enough credit for having previously provided food aid. He changed his tone when the journalists asked him about the images of children’s emotions from Gaza.

When he was asked if he agreed with Netanyahu’s recent remarks on the concerns of mass famine in Gaza being overestimated, he replied: “I do not know. I mean, on the basis of television, I would not particularly say because these children look very hungry.”

Starmer added: “I think people in Great Britain are rebellious to see what they see on their screens.”

Trump said that Israel “had a lot of responsibilities” on what is happening, but that it is hampered by what his actions could mean for the prospects of Israeli Hamas hostages since he attacked Israel in 2023.

“I think Israel can do a lot,” said Trump, adding Netanyahu, “I want him to make sure they get food.”

Israel, for his part, argued that he does what he can to obtain humanitarian aid for the Gazans. The country’s foreign ministry shared a video On Tuesday, what he says is Hamas “violently looting” help, keeping him civilians.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also called the main media to share an image of an emaciated Palestinian child, which implies that the boy’s state is the result of famine. Israel identified the boy as Osama al-Raqab, who suffers from cystic fibrosis. The ministry said that Israel had allowed him to go to Italy for treatment, while the media used his appearance to demonize the Jewish state.

“This is what a different blood defamation looks like,” said the ministry.
