European diplomats met the Iranians on Friday in face to face for the first time since Israel and the United States bombed the country last month.
The “serious, frank and detailed” meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, lasted around four hours and those responsible have all agreed to meet again for continuous negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program.
The sanctions which were lifted on Iran in 2015 after having agreed with restrictions and monitoring of its nuclear program could be reposed if Iran does not comply with the requirements.
One of the European E3 nations – Great Britain, France and Germany, who have had talks with Iran – could bring sanctions under the “Snapback” mechanism, which allows one of the European countries to bring the UN sanctions back if Iran violates the conditions.

European leaders have also said that sanctions will begin to be reinstated by the end of August if there is no progress in the reintegration of the Iranian nuclear program.
“A possible delay in the outbreak of Snapback has been floated to the Iranians provided that there is a credible diplomatic commitment by Iran, that they resume complete cooperation with the AIEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), and that they respond to concerns concerning their very enriched uranium.
The diplomat added that the Snapback mechanism “remains on the table”.
