“Our Savior said:” Father, forgive them because they don’t know what they are doing. “This young man … I forgive him,” said Erika Kirk. “I forgive him because that was what Christ did, and that’s what Charlie would do.”

Addressing a crowd at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, Erika Kirk thanked the public for having honored her husband.

She started her speech by quoting one of Charlie Kirk’s favorite biblical verses, Isaiah 6: 8: “Here I am, Lord. Send me” and remembers when Charlie Kirk repeated it at the end of a conference.

“After Charlie finished, I met him behind the scenes and I told her about it … I said, Charlie, baby, please tell me next time before saying this statement,” she said.

“Because when you say something like that, there is so much power in this verse … God will take you on it, and he did.”

Charlie Kirk was quickly urgently transported to the hospital after being killed at the University of Utah Valley in Orem, Utah, on September 10. During her Sunday memorial, Erika Kirk described the moment when she arrived to “do the unthinkable” and see her husband’s corpse.

“I look (Ed) directly on my husband’s murdered body,” she said. “I saw the injury that ended his life. I felt everything you expected to feel. I felt a shock. I felt horror and a level of grief that I did not even know.”

“But there was something else too. Even in death, I could see the man I love. I saw the only gray hair on the side of his head, which I never told him about,” she laughed. “Now he knows. Sorry, baby, tell you now.”

Erika Kirk added that she felt “the great mercy of God” in the death of her husband when she saw her body and saw a slight smile.

“I also saw on her lips the slightest smile … It told me that Charlie had not suffered. Even the doctor told me that it was something so instantaneous that even if Charlie had been shot in the operating room … Nothing could have been done. There was no pain.”

Erika Kirk also talked about their marriage, revealing the private ritual which kept strong even in the middle of the constant trip of her husband.

“Someone asked me once how Charlie and I thought we were keeping our wedding so hard when he was busy traveling,” she said. “Our little secret: it was love notes. Every Saturday, Charlie wrote one for me, and he never missed a Saturday.”
