One day after a local media revealed an assistant from Eric Adams for having pretended to a journalist a bundle of silver stuffed in a bag of croustilles, a handful of people from the inner circle of Adams, including one of his former advisers, were charged in their own ribtes scandal.
The Manhattan District Prosecutor’s Office announced four new accusation acts on Thursday, alleging a payment program and other accusations against several ADAMS partners, including one of his former chief advisers and his son, the owners of local businesses and two of Adams’ political donors.
Meanwhile, in the light of the news, Adams’s opponent in the next race for the mayor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, took a hit in Adams on Thursday when he distributed bags of chips to journalists at a press conference.
“Sometimes a bag of chips is just a bag of chips,” Cuomo told those present.

“Frankly, it’s embarrassing for the city of New York,” added Cuomo on Thursday, which is no stranger to scandals.

The new allegations related to corruption follows an incident on Wednesday, when, according to the local newspaper of New York, the city, one of the aids of Adams, which has since been suspended, would have tried to give money to one of its journalists hidden in a bag of crustiles. Adams Adams, now suspended, Winnie Greco, then described The Move an “error”, according to the city.
The accusation acts allegedly alleged a former Adams chief advisor, Ingrid Lewis-Martin, who resigned in 2024 in the midst of other accusations related to another payment payment program, received $ 75,000 in bribes between March 2022 and November 2024.
According to the Manhattan District Prosecutor’s Office, the alleged bribes were a cash payment of $ 50,000 “diverted from a city contract and other advantages” which were directed to the bank account of his son. Other allegations presented in the accusation acts include a poor direction of government contracts and political decisions stimulated by monetary incentives.

“We allege that Ingrid Lewis-Martin has embarked on conventional corruption plots that have had a deep and large-scale impact on the city government,” said District Prosecutor Alvin Bragg. “As presumed, Lewis-Martin has constantly exceeded the expertise of civil servants so that she can line her own pockets.”

On Thursday, after the news of the indictment, an Adams spokesman Todd Shapiro argued that the mayor “was not accused of any reprehensible act”.
“While Angrid Lewis-Martin has not worked for this administration, she has been a friend and colleague from the mayor for over 40 years, and he has known her as a dedicated civil servant; she declared her innocence, and her prayers are with her and her family,” added Shapiro.
“The mayor Adams also recognizes that Jesse Hamilton pleaded not guilty and, like any accused person, he is entitled to the presumption of innocence. His commitment to New Yorkers is unshakable.
Despite Shapiro’s claims that Adams was not involved, the mayor’s opponents in his next race to keep his position capitalized on the incident.

“While New Yorkers find it difficult to afford the most expensive city in America, Eric Adams and his administration are too busy tripping on corruption accusations to come to their defense,” said the candidate of the Democratic Party on Thursday for the mayor of New York.
“Corruption is not only what a politician wins, this is what the public is losing. And at the moment, the New Yorkers pay the price while another burst of indictment continues to erode his confidence in our democracy and to distract the crisis of affordability which requires action and urgency.”

Cuomo, who was himself the subject of major corruption scandals, resigned from his post as governor in the midst of numerous allegations of sexual assault in 2021. He called the last incidents involving Adams and his “Downy”, “embarrassing” and “depressing” confidants.
“We were talking about the way people feel frustrated by the government and alienated government and that the government does not work for them. And, then there seems to be this endless series of government corruption that continues,” Cuomo said on Thursday.
“And it’s sad. It’s embarrassing. It’s depressing. And then you wonder why people don’t believe in government.”
