Nancy Pelosi’s office avoids retirement rumors after NBC report

Former Speaker of the House Nancy PelosiElizabeth’s office is warding off rumors that she might soon leave Congress.
NBC News reported Monday that Pelosi, Democrat of California, is expected to “make an announcement” about her political future after Election Day on Tuesday, with anonymous sources predicting the Democratic political giant is expected to retire at the end of her term.
But when asked for comment on the Fox News Digital report, a spokesperson for Pelosi made no mention of her resignation — or her long-term plans in general.

“Speaker Pelosi is fully focused on her mission to win the Yes to 50 special election in California on Tuesday,” Pelosi spokesman Ian Krager said. “She urges all Californians to join this mission on the path to taking back the House for Democrats.”
“Yes on 50” refers to Democrats’ campaign asking California voters to allow the state legislature to temporarily set aside its nonpartisan redistricting commission in order to pass a new congressional map giving the left an advantage in the 2026 midterms.
This initiative is led by the Governor of California. Gavin Newsompotential 2028 presidential candidate, in response to Texas’ adoption of a new map giving Republicans an advantage in next year’s elections.

An anonymous Democrat in the California House of Representatives told NBC News, “I think she’s missing out. She’s going to come out with the massive passage of Prop 50, and what a crowning achievement for her to do that.”

During this time, at least two The Democrats have have already declared their intention to challenge Pelosi for her seat in California’s 11th Congressional District.
The most recent hope is State Senator Scott Wienerwho announced his campaign late last month.

Saikat Chakrabartisoftware engineer and left-wing activist who served as chief of staff to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is also in the race.

Pelosi has been a powerful player in American politics for decades, having served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023.
She first came to Congress in 1987 after winning a special election to replace the late Rep. Sala Burton, D-Calif.
