The chief of the minority Hakeem Jeffries, Dn.y., broke a record for speeches on Thursday in the House of Representatives, while the legislators continue to fight with the “great and beautiful bill” of President Donald Trump.
Jeffries was able to order the floor of the house via a “magic minute”, a privilege for party leaders in the room which allows them to speak as long as they wish.
He used it as a dropout tactic to delay the final vote on the Trump’s massive tax and immigration bill, after a house -scale marathon session considering the bill that started around 9:30 am on Wednesday.

It is now the longest “Magnity Minute” in the history of American representatives, breaking the records previously held by the former storm Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.
McCarthy spoke for eight hours and 32 minutes in November 2021 to oppose a better progressive bill for Democrats.
Like the Republicans One Big Beautiful Bill Act, legislators worked to adopt it via the budgetary reconciliation process – which accelerates certain elements of budgetary legislation by lowering the Senate threshold for the adoption of 60 votes to 51.
The New York Democrat began to speak a few minutes before 4 a.m. on Thursday and broke McCarthy’s record around 1:30 p.m., about 12 minutes. Jeffries finished his speech after eight hours and 44 minutes.
“I feel the obligation, Mr. President, to stand on this house and take my soft time,” he said at some point.

The first part of Jeffries’s speech saw him read in a binder which, according to him, contained accounts of people who could lose their Medicaid cover Under the GOP bill, drawn from residents of states with republican legislators.
“This congress is on the verge of tearing the food of children, veterans and the elderly following this great ugly bill in order to reward billionaires with massive tax lightening and exploding debt in the process,” he said at some point.
Jeffries said that “a major ugly bill” according to which “our republican colleagues are trying to block the throat of the American people will know their quality of life”.
At another moment of large -scale speech, he accused the Republicans of having reduced federal services to pay tax alternatives for rich Americans like Elon Musk – who notably opposed the bill.

“I think it is important for the American people to treat … Snap on average provides $ 6 per day. At the same time, Elon Musk, its federal contracts, as we understand it, amount to $ 8 million a day. Mr. President, if the Republicans were really serious about waste, fraud and abuse in the United States of America, start there-8 million dollars per day.” said Jeffries.

“Do not take it. Do not tear it away from the mouths of children, the elderly or veterans. If the Republicans were really serious about waste, fraud and abuses, start just with Elon Musk.”
The House Republicans should have their vote.
