Democratic states face a meticulous examination on Gerrymandering in the middle of the fight in Texas

Several democratic states are faced with a meticulous examination on their own congress cards as part of the Rediscussing efforts of Texas.
More specifically, many states have had a significant percentage for President Donald Trump in 2024, but have little or no representation of the Congress for the Republicans.
For example, Trump won almost 46% of votes to the New Mexico, but none of the three seats in the State is held by the Republicans. Currently, the partisan voting index of Cook is even for the second district of the Congress, which is considered to be very competitive. The current cards were held after a decision of the Supreme Court of New Mexico despite the Gerrymandering concerns.
The Democratic strategist says that the party lacks “moral authority” on the redistribution of Texas

Connecticut voted almost 42% for the president, but has no seats that the Republicans won in 2024. The Illinois is considered one of the most Gerrymandered states, the Republicans currently holding only three of the 17 seats, which is considered a 26% advantage for Democrats. The governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker, who supported the efforts of the Democrats of Texas to leave the state to thwart the redistribution votes, faced the interrogation of the animator of the end of the evening Stephen Colbert on the current map.
“If you plan to restart a little more in Illinois, you already have crazy quarters in Illinois. Take a look at this. Look (district) 17 here. He does that, then he appears here, and he sneaks there and goes to last week, then goes right there,” said Colbert on the Illinois map last week. “Is it common for all states?” Pritzker said it belonged to the independent redistribution committee, but that the way Texas sought to redraw its cards in the middle of the decade was problematic.
“It’s extremely rare,” said Pritzker. “And the way they do it, this removes the voting rights of blacks and brown. It is literally erased districts that have been written according to the law on voting rights. This will therefore end with the court if they are really able to do so.”

California saw Trump win 38% of the votes, but only nine of the 52 seats in the Congress, or 17%. This is considered a democratic advantage of 21% in the seats, because the State considers that the addition of five democratic seats to counter Texas, with a special election for the approval of the voters planned for November.
“We are talking about emergency measures to respond to what’s going on in Texas, and we will cancel what’s going on in Texas,” said California Gavin Newsom at a press conference last week.
New York has a democratic advance of 13% in the seats, with seven out of 26 having a republican performance, and Trump won 43% of the votes in the state. Oregon has a democratic advance of 24% while the Trump wing has 41% of the votes there.
New Jersey saw Trump at 46% of the vote, but the state has only three Republicans out of the 12 seats in the congress, and Maryland has only one republican representative despite 34% of the votes against the president, placing the State with a democratic advantage of 22% with eight districts in total.

Republican states have also faced their just part of Gerrymandering in the past, but the Democratic strategist Julian Epstein stressed “Fox News Live” during the weekend that Democrats are not immune to criticism on the issue.
“No, I think they do not have moral authority, and there are a lot of snack beads,” he said.

“Democrats have no clean hands here. You look at states like Massachusetts, New Jersey (…) Illinois, California and Democrats actually have Gerrymanders Republicans by existence,” added Epstein.
Many Democrats in the Texas Chamber remain outside the state to prevent a quorum which would allow the redistribution plan to go forward in the solo star state, and the governor of Texas Greg Abbott says that these members will probably be subject to their arrest on their return.
“We have a situation where legislators violate the law in article 3 of the Constitution of Texas, where they are required to act on bills. Because they violate this constitutional mandate, this means that they do not fulfill their oath and that they can be removed from its functions in this legal action that I take,” he told Fox News Sunday “.”
