In recent weeks before the primary of the New York Democratic Party primary, when he seemed to continue to capture the appointment of his party, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo concentrated the spotlight on President Donald Trump.
But following an unexpected loss against the democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, Cuomo seems to have attenuated his Trump messaging.
“Trump comes for New York. Who can you stop it?” The narrator in an announcement of the Cuomo campaign said, on images of the June riots in Los Angeles, triggered by the repression of Trump’s immigration.
“Trump is at the gates of the city. We need someone to experience them,” said the narrator when he suggested that Cuomo was the most experienced candidate to push the president’s agenda.
The former governor with three mandates, who resigned in the midst of twin scandals in 2021, was committed, if he was elected mayor, to protect the city of New York from what he suggested could be a possible federal repression against immigration demonstrations in the city. And he swore to set up a national campaign to try to thwart Trump’s agenda.
Position of the survey: Mamdani’s the Fratrunner, but does not run away with the mayor’s race in New York

But the superb victory of Mamdani over Cuomo and nine other candidates last month to capture the appointment of the Democratic Party rocked the race to the mayor in the most populous city in the country.
And as Cuomo resets that he presents himself in the mayor’s general elections as an independent candidate, the references to Trump have dropped while the former governor means interviews. He did not mention the president once in his video announcing his general electoral campaign.
Cuomo’s longtime advisor and spokesperson Rich Azzopardi said “this is not the case” when asked by Fox News Digital if the former governor underlined the Trump messaging.
“It’s silly. It’s been only eight days that the campaign had a recovery,” said Azzopardi. And he said that in the local interviews that Cuomo made: “It was more local problems and portfolios that have occurred.”
“I think New Yorkers know that the best equipped person to protect New York from any excess that could get out of Washington is Andrew Cuomo because he has already done it,” added Azzopardi.
But Mamdani’s campaign argues that Cuomo takes a page of their game book while he highlights his proposals to reduce rent, build more housing and improve public transport.

The State of State of State of State, 33 years old, of Queens, who was supported by the representative of progressive champions Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New York and Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, set out to a primary victory with the approach and victory of New York.

Mamdani has made intelligent use of social media platforms, including Tiktok, while he was engaging in low propagation voters. He proposed to eliminate the prices to set up the vast bus system from New York, making rents from Cuny (University of the City of New York), freezing rents on municipal housing, offering “free daycares” for children up to 5 years and the establishment of grocery stores managed by the government.
And Mamdani, thanks in part to the efforts of a huge people’s popular army of volunteers, led a wave of support from younger and progressive voters to catapult themselves in first place.
Cuomo now says that he is committed to making New York a city with “safer streets, safer streets, where the purchase of your first house is again possible, where childcare services will not trust”.
And he targeted Mamdani for having expressed smooth slogans, but no real solutions “.

Cuomo is one of the four candidates for the general elections who face Mamdani, who, as a candidate of the Democratic Party, is the favorite of a city where the Democrats are more numerous than the Republicans by a margin of about six to one.
Also in the race are Mayor Eric Adams, The besieged holder who announced earlier this year that he would ask for a re-election as an independent candidate, and the co-founder of Guardian Angels Curtis Sliwa, who for a second consecutive election is the republican candidate for town hall.
And Jim Walden, a former federal prosecutor, also presents himself as independent.

Cuomo, since his main defeat, has noted that the general electoral electorate in New York is much larger than the voter basin who voted in the Democratic nomination race.
“Only 13% of New Yorkers voted in June primary,” said Cuomo in his general elections launch video.
And as it is now faced with a broader and more moderate electorate than that of the primary of the Democratic Party, the apparent pivot of Cuomo far from Trump and towards affordability seems strategic.
Azzopardi, stressing the revival of the campaign, told Fox News: “It was important to hit the ground to meet the New Yorkers where they are, and that’s what we do.”
“The message is simple. These are the New Yorkers are generally not hard-proof deceptions, and they are not socialists. They are in the middle, and the governor argues the way he is best equipped to bring the first competent administration to the Town Hall in 12 years,” said Azzopardi.

But the veteran Democratic Stratège Lauren Hitt, who advised a super anti-cucuomic heat in the democratic primary, argued that New York voters are likely to be skeptical about the message of the former governor.
“Cuomo has already had the chance to make New York more affordable, and he has done the opposite. He can therefore try to slap another label of his campaign, but New Yorkers already know that they don’t like what he sells,” said Hitt.
