Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo revealed the volume of his attacks on the New York mayor’s rival, the rival of mayor Zohran Mamdani, on the issue of prostitution.

Cuomo, who presents himself for the mayor of the most populous city in the country as an independence after Mamdani exceeded it in two figures during the primary of the Democratic Party of June, argues that if the legislator of the 33 -year -old Democratic State of the Queen wins in November, “New York City would become capital of the country’s prostitution”.

Mamdani, whose victory over Cuomo and nine other candidates of the primary Democratic mayor sent political shock across the country, called for the decriminalization of sex work when he ran for the state legislature in 2020.

And as a state -like, Mamdani has co -plated bills to decriminalize the state of sex throughout the state.

But he rarely talked about the question during his race in 2025 for the mayor.

Asked during a campaign event on Sunday on criticism on the decriminalization of Cuomo prostitution and the outgoing mayor Eric Adams, who also presents himself as an independent candidate because he seeks to re -elect, Mamdani said that “my concentration on this campaign has long been to make this city”.

Stressing these comments, Cuomo said at a press conference on Monday that Mamdani “was asked yesterday if he would order the NYPD to stop making prostitution arrests. He did not say yes or no, but suggested that he would imitate the former mayor Bill de Blasio.”

Cuomo, who has long been a noisy critic from De Blasio, a former progressive mayor of New York with two terms, noted that prostitution was wrapped during the Mandate of De Blasio in office.

“He would imitate the former mayor Bill de Blasio with regard to the arrests of prostitution,” said Cuomo. “If you listen to it and look at its policies, it will be Blasio 2.0, and I think it is the last thing this city needs.”

Supporters of the depressed of prostitution argue that this decision makes sex workers less sensitive to exploitation and violence. But studies suggest that in the fields where prostitution is legal, there is an increase in crime and trafficking in human beings.

A new candidate enters the New York mayor race

Certain parts of New York have experienced an influx of sex workers since during goov. Cuomo signed a law at the beginning of 2021 which repealed statues against the flattering for prostitution purposes.

Asked about this bill, the former governor said: “The Bill of Flânant’s bill, I should check. I do not frankly remember this bill.”

But Cuomo stressed that earlier on Monday, he visited the corridor of avenue Roosevelt in Queens, one of the areas that experienced a spectacular increase in sex workers.

“There were signs of prostitution on the street. I spoke to the owners of stores. They are very concerned about this. They think that it is destructive for their business, destructive for their neighborhood, it is a bad influence on children,” said Cuomo.

Mamdani, who was born in Uganda and who would become the first Muslim and first millennium in New York if he won the November elections, was also criticized on prostitution by Adams.

“I do not know where in his Koran, he indicates that it is normal for a woman to be in the street by selling their bodies. I do not know which Koran he reads,” said the mayor speaking of journalists on Sunday.

Mamdani has achieved a main victory thanks to an energetic campaign that has emphasized the affordability and high cost of New York. It was fueled by an army of basic supporters and the support of the best national national champions, including Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York and Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont.

Mamdani has made intelligent use of social media platforms, including Tiktok, while he was engaging in low propagation voters. He proposed to eliminate the prices to set up the vast bus system from New York, making rents from Cuny (University of the City of New York), freezing rents on municipal housing, offering “free daycares” for children up to 5 years and the establishment of grocery stores managed by the government.

The latest polls indicate that Mamdani is the first favorite in a city where Democrats are more numerous than the Republicans.
