Death penalty on the table while Utah prepares the accusations in the assassination of Charlie Kirk

Provo, UTAH – The Utah County Prosecutor’s Office told Fox News that they were “optimistic” that accusations will be deposited on Tuesday against Tyler Robinson, the 22 -year -old Utah native who was arrested last week for the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.

Utah County Prosecutor Jeff Gray is planning a midday press conference MDT on Tuesday at Utah County Health & Justice Building in Provo, Utah – about 15 minutes by car from the University of Utah Valley campus, where Kirk was killed less than a week ago.

The press conference is planned while prosecutors are approaching the three -day deadline to issue official indictment against Robinson, who was arrested on Friday at his home in Washington, Utah, following a 33 -hour man hunting after Kirk was killed on Wednesday.

If the lawyer’s office respects the deadline of noon, accusations will be announced at the press conference, then Robinson will make his first appearance before the court at 3 p.m. practically from Utah County prison in Spanish Fork, Utah, where Robinson is held under “Watch”, according to the authorities.

If there is a delay announcing the official charges of Robinson, the announcement would slip until Friday, because the lawyer’s office can extend the deadline up to three working days.

Robinson “was arrested and sentenced to Utah County prison early Friday morning, suspected of having committed three crimes related to the murder” of Kirk, said Gray. These crimes include aggravated murder, obstruction of justice and criminal release of a firearm causing serious bodily lesions.

Gray said that the official charges of Robinson will probably comply with his preliminary accusations. Robinson is detained without deposit.

“Utah’s law, an aggravated murder carries a death sentence, for life in prison without the possibility of parole, twenty-five years for life in prison with the possibility of parole. The obstruction of justice involves a severe sentence of injuries to an invulgence of the prison to a breakthrough in prison at the duration of the prison”.

If the office of the Utah County Prosecutor respects the deadline on Tuesday, the accusations will be registered on the “criminal information” document, which will trigger the official start of the criminal case against Robinson.

A possible delay would indicate that his office requires more time to prepare the charges, according to Gray.

“Our ability to file a complaint depends on the speed with which we can bring together and examine carefully by mountains of evidence. We will be in-depth and deliberate at each stage of this case,” he said.

“The mission of my office is to protect our community by investigating and vigorously pursuing crime, helping with compassion the victims of crimes and by looking for justice for all. We will not spare any effort to reach these ends in this case, and each case,” added Gray.

The attorney general Derek Brown told Fox News Digital on Friday that Robinson could face a combination of state and federal accusations.

President Donald Trump and Governor Spencer Cox, Rutah, both called for the death penalty against Robinson, who is a possibility under the law of UTA.

The media frenzy had mainly dissipated on the campus of the University of Utah Valley on the evening of Monday, September 15, 2025, while the students and the inhabitants returned to the campus to pay tribute to Kirk.

Campus reopened for UVU students In search of mental health resources and employees returning to work, the commemorative monuments filled the grass outside the campus.

Inside the UVU court, an American flag is now suspended where Kirk was held in front of his assassination less than a week ago. More tributes, including flowers, American flags and messages in Kirk, were placed in the courtyard.
