As the reported crossings have dropped spectacularly on the border, there is still work to do on the issues of preventing drugs from heading to the United States, especially in the border state of Arizona, said a senior state official.

One of the ways in which the cartels carry drugs is to use drones, a tactic that drew attention after the signing of bipartite legislation in the state of the Grand Canyon gave the police the power to shoot down small planes.

“I think what has changed is that we have obtained more control over the people who cross the border, but unfortunately what has not changed, is that we still have a huge amount of fentanyl that crosses our border here in Arizona, and which is during me on the Mexican drug cartels with drones,” said the Democratic prosecutor of Arizona, General Kris Mayes.

“So, one of the things as a prosecutor general of the Arizona that I did is that we have adopted a law that allows local police and our office to draw these drones from the sky or deactivate them with drone bronchi. And this is something that has been expected for a long time.

“”It’s shocking, the number of drones that arrive inside Arizona. It is very, very dangerous. Obviously, at the moment, they are deliver useful charges of fentanyl. But drones are able to deliver almost anything, as we have seen in Ukraine, “she said.

Mayes disagreed with various elements of border and immigration policies of the Trump administration. For example, it does not support the masking of ice agents “except in extreme circumstances” because it causes distrust.

In terms of application of drugs, she asked 50 or more people from the drug application agency and criticized a 35% proposal at the federal level to the high -intensity drug trafficking area.

“”I need the federal government to go to the plate and bring us more resources to deal with these cartels as they evolve, “she said.

In response to the request of Mayes for more DEA agents, the agency referred to the special agent in charge of Jarod Forget’s comments on “America Reports” in February.

“We are committed to putting more people there. We add more people when we speak, so Phoenix has always been one of the best DEA domestic offices and regions we are focusing on. We see it in number,” he said at the time.

Although there are political disagreements on the border policies of the Trump administration, some Republicans have expressed that the overall situation has improved considerably.

“”What I can tell you is that looking at (early) 2025 to June, we find a reduction in fentanyl cases coming to our office, “said Maricopa County prosecutor Rachel Mitchell, a republican.

“”We know that in 2022 to 2023, more than half of the fentanyl seized – and it was according to the DEA – was seized in Arizona. This is the main distribution point for the whole country, “said Mitchell, adding that the lethality of the pills has increased in recent years.

“SO These border efforts by President Trump and his administration to obtain control of this border are essential to ensure the safety and life of the Americans, frankly, “she continued.

Regarding level passages, the mayor of Yuma, Douglas Nicholls, explained that things are now more “peaceful” in the region. Yuma is a few minutes from the border, and the city faced pressure on resources during the border crisis, including at his hospital, and they always hope to see the reimbursement at some point.

“The cartel’s activity has remained roughly south of the border, and that has always done so. There is no real foray into our community, and we have not seen an increase in crime in the past five years. We have in fact seen a decrease in the past two years,” noted Nicholls.

“So there is no direct impact here. But what happened is that in Mexico, there has been a big change in the organization of cartels because there have been arrests … The leadership levels were contributed by people within cartel organizations,” he continued. “This caused a lot of violence through the border, so there are these concerns that have an impact on us. From the point of view of people coming here to access the border, if they do not go through, who have a lot of impact on our local economy, so in this point of view, it was really the only big impact.”

“”But the prohibition of drugs that go through our community – fentanyl, and all, cocaine and everything – for me, it is a more important problem throughout the country because it does not stop here, it continues to move in our community, “added the mayor.

“Under President Trump, the southern border is safer than it has ever been,” said White House spokesperson Liz Huston. “The Trump administration restores law and order, and the criminals of the dangerous cartel are withdrawn from our streets. The protection of the American people is our absolute priority – and criminals now know if they cross our border, they will be confronted with the entire strength of the United States’s judicial system.”
