Capitalism beats socialism in popularity, the Fox News Survey finds

As a Democratic candidate of New York to the mayor, Zohran Mandani establishes progressive plans on the campaign campaign, a new national Fox News survey reveals that capitalism remains more popular than socialism. However, voters support the increase in taxes on the rich.

Among other things, Mamdani, a self -proclaimed democratic socialist, promised to make New York more affordable by taxing his elite residents.

Voters at the national level favor the government increasing taxes on the rich if it means that it will strengthen the country’s social programs (73% support increase taxes to achieve this objective) and disseminate wealth to these less wealthy (64%).

They are less inclined to increase taxes on the rich “so that no one is too rich” (support 47% against 52% to oppose).

To various degrees, most Democrats (89%), Republicans (56%) and independents (78%) support growing taxes on the rich to strengthen social programs.

More than half of the Republicans oppose increasing taxes on the rich to spread wealth and to prevent a person from becoming too easy, the two objectives that most democrats and independents support.

Mamdani’s favorable notes at the national level are underwater of 19 percentage points (18% favorable against 37% unfavorable), with the largest part of voters, 44%, having never heard of him.

Those who are most likely to see Mamdani positively are very liberal (44%) and democratic men (34%). Negative opinions are largely motivated by Republicans (they are most likely to know it), with more than half saying that they do not like it (54% unfavorable). Many Democrats (47%) and more than half of the self -employed (55%) have never heard of him.

Despite the appetite to dip the rich, two thirds (65%) have an unfavorable vision of socialism. It is the highest recorded in a handful of Fox News surveys dating back to 2019.

The greatest supporters of socialism, like Mamdani, are very liberal (53%favorable, and the only subgroup where support exceeds 50%) and democratic men (41%).

While capitalism remains popular (twice as many many see it positively compared to socialism), the note of 53% favorably is down compared to a maximum of 57% in 2019.

The greatest supporters of capitalism are republican men (80%favorable), voters aged 65 and over (74%), those who are very conservative (71%) and those who have higher education diplomas (70%).

Skepticism about capitalism is the highest among the self -employed, women and Hispanic voters. However, each group is more likely to promote capitalism than two -digit socialism.

The majorities of voters under the age of 30 see both socialism (56% unfavorable) and capitalism (61%).

Directed from September 6 to 9, 2025, under the direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News survey includes interviews with a sample of 1,004 voters recorded at random in a national voter file. The respondents maintained themselves with live interviewers on fixed lines (119) and mobile phones (638) or completed the survey online after receiving a text (247). The results based on the full sample have a sampling error margin of ± 3 percentage points. The sampling error for the results between the subgroups is higher. In addition to the sampling error, the wording of the question and the order can influence the results. Weights are generally applied to age, race, education and area variables to ensure that the demography of respondents is representative of the registered electoral population. Sources to develop weight objectives include the American Community Survey, Fox News Voter Analysis and voter file data.
