“Canada had the chance to change the course after the (former Prime Minister Justin) disaster of Trudeau’s mandate, but rather chose to continue walking towards the abyss. It is out of doubt that a violent incident like the one we have attended in Montreal is a direct inspiration from the government of the Tailwind Canada, de facto, Hamas Amichai Amchichai told the Affairs of the Diaspora and the fighter.

“Canada is not yet at the stage of Belgium or the United Kingdom-which they have become extremely dangerous for the Jews, but it is heading, slowly and inexorably,” he added.

“What happened in Montreal Friday afternoon was absolutely horrible. It must serve as alarm to the whole city. This is what happens when civic leaders allow an atmosphere where hateful thugs have the impression of being able to act with impunity,” he said.

The attack occurred in the middle of a broader climate of intense anti -Semitism, which recently led Deborah Lyons, the special envoy of Canada on the memory of the holocaust and the fight against anti -Semitism, to resign in July – three months before the end of his mandate – citing physical and emotional exhaustion.

It also took place in a context of tense Canadian-Israeli relations. Canada is one of the four countries, alongside France, Australia and the United Kingdom, which have announced their intention to recognize a Palestinian state.

The former Canadian Ambassador to Israel, Vivian Bercovici, told Fox News Digital that it was difficult to discuss the last two years of growing anti -Semitism in Canada without returning to October 2015, when former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was elected Prime Minister.

“In my opinion, Trudeau’s approach to the conflict was very plural and not sophisticated. It had a very rapid Muslim population in Canada, and took care to do nothing to alienate these voters,” said Bercovici.

According to Statistics Canada, the share of the population identifying themselves as a Muslim has more than doubled over 20 years, going from 2.0% (579,640 people) in 2001 to 4.9% (1,775,715 people) in 2021.

“What we have seen, as in many other parts of the West is that they have come and demanded that we change to welcome them – that we change the way we do things. Some of their most coherent requirements concern Israel and Jewish communities, which are increasingly targets,” said Bercovici.
