Cambodia will appoint President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize after helping the country concluded a cease-fire agreement to end its border conflict with Thailand.

Sun Chanthol, Vice-Prime Minister of Cambodia, thanked Trump for bringing peace in the region while addressing journalists earlier Friday in the capital of Phnom Penh.

Chanthol said that the American president deserved to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, the deepest international prize awarded to a person or an organization for having done the most for “advancing the stock market between nations”.

“We recognize his great efforts for peace,” said Chanthol.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last month that he named Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize and that Pakistani officials said in June that they would recommend him for the prize for his role by helping to put an end to his conflict with India.

Trump urged a ceasefire last week when he spoke to the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand and threatened that the United States does not return to the “trade table” with the countries of Southeast Asia until the fighting does not stop.

A ceasefire was negotiated Malaysia on Monday, ending the heaviest conflict between the two countries in more than a decade.

“Many people have been killed and I am dealing with two countries with which we get along very well, countries very different from certain points of view. They have been fighting for 500 years. And, we have resolved this war … We resolved it by trade,” Trump told journalists during his recent trip to Scotland.

After the news from the ceasefire, the press secretary of the White House, Karoline Leavitt, wrote on X that the direct participation of Trump led to the truce.

“President Trump did this.

The fighting began last week after an explosion of terrestrial mines along the wounded border five Thai soldiers. Each side blamed the other for starting the clashes, which lasted five days.

At least 43 people were killed and more than 300,000 people were moved on both sides of the border.

“I said,” I don’t want to chat with someone who kills himself “, Trump continued in Scotland. “So, we have just resolved it. And I will call the two Prime Ministers with whom I get along very, very well and speak them right after this meeting and congratulate them. But it was an honor to be involved in it. It was going to be a very nasty war. These wars were very, very nasty.”

Chanthol, who is also the best commercial negotiator in Cambodia, said that his country was also grateful to Trump for a reduced rate rate of 19%.

The Trump administration had initially threatened a rate by 49% before reducing it later to 36%, a level that would have decimated the vital sector of Cambodia clothing and shoes, Chanthol in Reuters told.
