Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill on Saturday prohibiting law enforcement forces to carry facial covers while conducting official affairs in California.

The bill, which was presented Wednesday in Newsom, makes it a crime of crime for local, state or federal police for carrying masks or personal disguises during their functions, unless an officer is under cover or exercises a tactical operation which requires protective equipment.

The bill would also impose a civil sanction against the officers for a “tort conduct”, including the false penalty or a false arrest of an individual while carrying facial coverage.

Announcing the signing of the bill on Saturday, Newsom narrated immigration and customs’ application agents (ICE), asking for repetitively “what are you afraid of?”

“Unmarked cars, people in masks, people are literally disappearing. No regular procedure, no rights – no rights in a democracy where we have rights, immigrants have rights,” said Newsom. “We have the right to get up and repel, and that is what we are doing here today. It is a shame. It is an outrage. What we have made to happen in this country.

The ban comes after a series of immigration raids in Los Angeles, where federal agents have been spotted bearing masks to protect their identity against disclosure.

Federal police are risking their lives daily – now some Democrats want to worsen things

The deputy secretary of the Ministry of Internal Security (DHS), Tricia McLaughlin, noted that federal agents have already been required to identify and wear clothes that designate that they are with icy or interior security markers during operations.

“Another day, another sanctuary politician pulling a blow to try to obtain their 15 minutes of glory while endangering the staff and prisoners of the DHS,” wrote McLaughlin. “The men and women of ice have brought their lives into play every day to stop violent illegal criminal foreigners to protect and defend the lives of American citizens.”

The agency is experiencing a 1,000% increase in assault against ice officers, which leads to concerns about their security and the security of their families, according to McLaughlin.
