California AG declares fantastic illegal daily sports platforms in the state

The California Attorney General Rob Bonta published a legal opinion on Thursday that indicates that fantastic sports platforms online in the state are now illegal.
Bonta 33 -page opinion declares that fantastic sports platforms are illegal because they involve betting on sport. The apparently applies only to fantastic daily sports, but not to fantastic sports leagues throughout the season.

“Like traditional sports betting, daily fantastic sports games allow participants to earn or lose money depending on the result of sporting events played by third -party athletes,” said opinion.
“It is not because the operator does not bet against the players that players do not bet against each other.”

The sports game was illegal in California, but Fantasy Sports was a legal gray area. But online fantastic sports platforms have been working in the state for over a dozen years, and the product has generated billions of dollars during this period.
During a state election in 2022, voters massively rejected a measure to legalize online sports betting. Then, in 2023, the California GOP legislator, Scott Wilk, sent a letter to the Ministry of Justice of the State, requesting a legal opinion on fantastic daily sports.

Now this opinion has been published and could disrupt the state fantastic sport industry.
The office of the governor of California Gavin Newsom made a statement to Fox News Digital sending Bonta’s decision.
“The Attorney General, in his independent capacity, has issued this opinion – not the governor’s office. Although the governor does not agree with the result, he welcomes a constructive path in collaboration with all stakeholders,” the press release said.
