Boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr arrested by days of ice after Jake Paul Fight

The famous Mexican boxer and illegal criminal immigrant Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was arrested Wednesday by immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), only four days after having fought Jake Paul at Honda Center in Anaheim, in California.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the arrest on Thursday, note Chavez was treated for “the accelerated withdrawal from the United States”.

Chavez was arrested in Los Angeles in January 2024 and then found guilty of possession of an assault weapon, and of manufacturing or importing a short barrel rifle, according to the press release. He was sentenced to criminal in the United States for leading under the influence of alcohol in 2012.

He also has an active arrest warrant in Mexico for his presumed involvement with the Sinaloa cartelTaking firearms, ammunition and explosives, according to DHS officials.

While Chavez legally entered the United States in August 2023 on a B2 tourist visa, he expired in February 2024.

In April 2024, he filed a request for a legal permanent resident status.

However, his request was based on his marriage to an American citizen, who is linked to the Sinaloa cartel by a previous relationship with The now deceased son of the famous leader of the cartel Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, according to the press release.

In December 2024, citizenship and immigration services in the United States referred to the ice that Chavez was considered “a blatant threat to public security”.

“However, an entry into an application system of the DHS law under the Biden administration said that Chavez was not a priority for applying immigration,” the DHS wrote.

The DHS said that Chavez had returned to the country in January through the port of entrance to San Ysidro. But, after “multiple fraudulent declarations at his request to become a legal permanent resident”. he was tried in the country illegally and removable on June 27.

“It is shocking that the previous administration reported this illegal criminal foreigner as a threat of public security, but has chosen not to give priority to his dismissal and to let him go and return to our country,” said assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin wrote in a declaration. “Under President Trump, no one is above the law, including world renowned athletes.”

“Our message to all the cartel affiliates in the United States is clear: we will find you and you will face consequences,” added McLaughlin. “The days of violence of the uncontrolled cartel are over.”

Chavez’s struggle against Paul ended with a defeat, the judges giving the boxer who became a unanimous victory after 10 laps.

Chavez was a former WBC’s average weight champion and the Julio Cesar Chavez box legend, who organized five different world titles in four different weight classes. Paul’s victory on Saturday made him rank for the first time, at No. 14 in the WBA Cruiserweight ranking.
