The Attorney General Pam Bondi was questioned on Monday at a hearing on the budget of the Chamber on Iranian nationals who entered the country illegally during the Biden administration after the Trump administration warned that the conflict with Iran has increased threat levels in the United States.
Representative Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, asked if the Attorney General knew how many Iranian nationals in the United States had been found guilty of crimes. Bondi said that she was not sure, but that more than 1,000 entered the country during the last administration.
“And I can tell you that we are on a high alert, and everyone looks at him very closely,” said Bondi.

The American border patrol arrested 1,504 Iranians on the southern border during the mandate of President Joe Biden, and almost half of them, or 729, were released in the United States, according to a source of customs and border protection.
Bondi’s remarks echo those of the Department of Internal Security (DHS), which issued a previous day by saying that the Iranian conflict “causes an increased threat environment in the United States”. The DHS cited the possibility of extremists in the United States “to mobilize independently to violence” if Iranian leaders should call it. The ministry also said that cyber attacks and anti -Semitism incidents could increase.
Gonzales interviewed Bondi about the threat of Iranian “sleeping cells”, to which the Attorney General said that she could “not speak in this context”.
The questioning line during an audience on the budgetary proposal of the Ministry of Justice (DOJ) for the next financial year took place in the midst of a rapidly evolving conflict in the Middle East in which Trump chose to intervene during the weekend.

Trump said that the Iranians had given “early notice” of the offensive and that no victim occurred as a result of the attack.
Later Monday, Trump announced that a cease-fire between Israel and Iran would take effect in a few hours, although the cease-fire agreements have passed in the past, and it is not clear if the agreement will hold.

The Doj brought a charge Against three men last year as part of a rental murder program that would have been from Iran which involved murdering Trump before the 2024 elections, as well as killing a journalist. One of the men remains in freedom. He is an Afghan national but would have been paid by the body of the Islamic Revolution Guard, a militant group based in Iran.
“The accusations announced today set out Iran’s original attempts to target American citizens, notably the president elected Donald Trump, other leaders of the government and dissidents who criticize the regime in Tehran,” said FBI director Christopher Wray at the time of the indictment.
