What is endometriosis?
Endometriosis affects around 10% of women of reproductive age worldwide; In the United States only, it has an impact on 9 million women. The diagnosis is often delayed, with an average of five to 12 years after the start of the symptoms due to stigma and an erroneous diagnosis, according to research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

When the treatment does not help the symptoms, the next step is often laparoscopic surgery, which uses small incisions to eliminate or ablaient lesions.
This surgery often means faster recovery and less complications in relation to more invasive open surgery, called laparotomy, which involves a long incision through the abdomen.

Recovery generally takes two to four weeks, although healing can take more time depending on the extent of surgery and individual health.
Although relatively rare, the risks of surgery may include infection, bleeding, damage to nearby organs and gas -related discomfort.
Beyond the relief of symptoms, procedures like those of Irwin can preserve fertility by eliminating growth.
