The alleged use of Biden of the Autopen has become a collision point for months, as President Donald Trump said that thousands of pardons that Biden signed were zero and said that the former president did not know what documents he signed by the automated system.
Biden published a series of preventive pardons on his last day to officials, including the former chief medical advisor to President Anthony Fauci and the former president of the joint staff chiefs, General Mark Many, in order to save them from Trump’s punishment.
In an article intended to be his defense for the question of the autopen, it appeared that, although Biden would have made the decision at a meeting, the chief of staff of Biden, Jeff Zient, is the one who gave the final approval for the use of the autopen, at least in the case of Fauci and Many, reported the New York Times.

On the last day of Biden as president, on January 19, Biden had a meeting with his assistants up to almost 10 p.m. to talk about various preventive pardons, reports Le Times. The emails obtained by the Times show that an assistant sent a project to summarize the decisions formalized during this meeting to the assistant of Zient at 10:03 pm
The assistant sent the email to Zients and others present to the meeting, requesting the approval of the deputy chief of staff of Zients and the White House Bruce Reed at 10:28 p.m., the Times reported. Zients answered everything to the email three minutes later, said the point of sale.
“I approve of the use of the autopen for the execution of all the following pards,” said Zients in the email, according to the Times.
Zients could not be immediately joined to comment by Fox News Digital.
In addition, the Times report said that Biden did not personally approve of each name included in the wide and categorical pardons.
“Rather, after an in -depth discussion on different possible criteria, he signed the standards he wanted to be used to determine which condemned would be eligible for a reduction in sentence,” reported the Times.
Asked about the Times report, Trump told journalists from the White House on Monday that the alleged use of Biden of the Autopen may be represented “one of the biggest scandals we had in 50 to 100 years”.
“I guarantee you that he didn’t know anything about what he signed, I guarantee you,” said Trump.
In addition, the White House said that the report highlighted Biden’s reliability and accused the Biden administration of engaging in concealment.

“The same president who lied between the teeth to the American people for four years on everything, from their health to the state of the economy should no longer trust,” said White House spokesman Harrison Fields in an email at Fox News. “The Biden administration has led the most blatant concealment scheme of American politics … The truth will come out of knowing who actually directed the country sooner or later, just as the truth emerges from the cognitive and physical health of Joe Biden.”
Biden granted a total of 4,245 leniency acts during his administration, 96% of which were granted in his last months of power between October 2024 and January, according to the Pew Research Center.
Trump accused Biden for the first time of using an autopen to sign important Clemence documents in March. He continued to raise the question and sent a memo.
“In recent months, it has become more and more obvious that Biden’s aids have abused the power of presidential signatures by using an autopen to hide Biden’s cognitive decline and assert the authority of Article II,” Trump wrote in memo.

“This conspiracy marks one of the most dangerous and concerned scandals in American history. The American public deliberately protected to discover who exercised the executive power, while being the signature of Biden.
A White House official previously told Fox News Digital that Trump uses his hand signature for each legally operational or binding document. Despite this, Trump admitted that he used an automatic for letters.

An automatic is a machine that physically holds a pen and has a program to imitate a person’s signature. Unlike a stamp or a digitized printing of a signature, the autopen has the capacity to contain various types of pens as a ball point to a permanent marker, according to the descriptions of the autopen machines available to purchase.
