Former President Barack Obama congratulated a group of Democratic legislators from Texas for having fled their state to arrest a vote on a redistribution bill, qualifying their actions as “inspiring”, according to the report.

The representative of the State of Texas, Gene Wu, who is president of the Texas House Democratic Caucus, published Thursday X, thanking the former president for having met the legislators via Zoom.

Wu said Democrats were “encouraged” by Obama’s words and “remain determined to fight for democracy, Texas and across the country”.

ABC News reported that a spokesperson for Obama confirmed the meeting, saying that he “greeted his fight against republican efforts to promulgate an even more blatant gerrymander in Texas before mid-term”.

The spokesman said to the point of sale that Obama “clearly said that they were part of a larger effort to protect the free and fair elections and congratulated them for inspired the others with their actions.”

This comes in the midst of a continuous confrontation between the Republicans of Texas and the Democrats for an effort supported by President Donald Trump to adopt a redistribution bill which would probably give the GOP five seats at the Congress. More than 50 Democratic members of the House of Representatives of Texas fled the State to refuse the legislature the quorum necessary to adopt the bill.

In response, Texas Republican leaders have put legal action to oblige AWOL legislators to return and have also threatened to withdraw them from the functions if they continue to refuse to participate in the legislative process.

Texas House Democrats published on Thursday a statement in which they announced that they will only return to the state if the legislative assembly agrees to adjourn it without intended to meet or if California introduces its own redistribution legislation to “neutralize” the seats of the GOP won in Texas.

Obama previously expressed his solidarity with the Texas Democrats, saying that in an article of August 5, “we cannot focus on what matters – for the moment, the Republicans in Texas are trying to get the Lines to win five seats unjustly in the mid -term elections of next year. It is a takeover that undermines our democracy.”

Wu told ABC News that Democrats were “particularly excited” that Obama addressed them via Zoom.

“President Obama speaks to us and supports us is proof that when Texas House, Democrats get up and fight, we are not alone – we have the support of democrats at all levels that understand that when the Republicans attack the voting rights in Texas, they attack the foundations of our democracy everywhere,” Wu told The Outlet.

He said the meeting was held via Zoom due to “republican threats”.

“The fact that we must meet the president Obama of a non -disclosed place and via Zoom because of republican threats and surveillance only proves to what extent Abbott and his extremist allies have become desperate,” said Wu. “They know that their racial gerrymandering program is collapsed, they therefore use intimidation tactics. The whole country looks at – and the Democrats of the Texas Chamber will not be silenced by intimidators. “

On Thursday, the California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom announced his intention to counter the Rediscuss plan of Texas by pushing to make his state redraw to eliminate republican seats.

In response, senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, laughed back that if California eliminates all of its republican districts, Texas should do the same, which would leave the GoP with a net gain.
