AOC pushes back after Brandon Gill opposes Mamdani’s Arabic campaign

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., defended Democratic New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani after Republican Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, criticized him for campaigning in Arabic.
“Just a few decades after 9/11, New York’s leading mayoral candidate is campaigning in Arabic. The goal is humiliation,” Gill wrote in an article on X, sharing a campaign video of Mamdani in Arabic.
The Republican made the comments while retweeting an article by Mamdani on X written in Arabic, which featured a video of the mayoral candidate speaking the foreign language.

Ocasio-Cortez, who supports Mamdani, retweeted Gill’s post and commented“More than 100 languages are spoken in our great city and that’s actually a pretty amazing part of being American. If you’re humbled by America and the diversity that fuels our country’s Nobel Prizes, Olympic gold medals, groundbreaking innovations and culture, it’s your fault.”
Mamdani’s message sparked a broader Republican reaction. GOP Rep. Randy Fine of Florida shared Mamdani’s Arabic message and asserted“If you don’t speak English, you shouldn’t be able to vote.”

Mamdani, an Empire State Assembly member, describes himself as a “democratic socialist” on his X profile.
President Donald Trump urged Big Apple voters to support former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the mayor’s race.

“A vote for Curtis Sliwa (who looks much better without the beret!) is a vote for Mamdani,” the president said of the Republican mayoral candidate in Truth Social. job.
“Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You have to vote for him and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!” » said Trump.
Election Day in New York is Tuesday, November 4.
