The American veterans working with the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) want to define the pendulum on what is happening on the ground almost two years after the war.

Jason Murray, Scott Weimer and Brandon Zielinski – All American military veterans – work to make sure that Palestinians in Gaza have the food they need.

The three men spoke with Fox News Digital and said they were proud of the work they do on the ground with GHF.

“In a way, we built a flight in flight … not even knowing where we were going to land,” Murray said about the situation.

GHF began its operations in May 2025, more than a year and a half after the start of the war. While facing challenges to distribute Gaza, Murray said he had seen parallels with his military service, which helped him as GHF volunteer.

Weimer told Fox News Digital that when the opportunity arose, it seemed to be a “natural adjustment” and that he thought he could meet a need in a way that others could not. He also said that his service experience with Murray had worked in this type of environment where they were able to find people with the right skills and put them where they would be the most useful.

When he was in the army, Zielinski said he had followed a large part of bilateral training in which he did not always speak the same language as his counterparts. He said his work experience through linguistic barriers has contributed to his interactions with the Israel Defense Forces (FDI), which coordinated with GHF.

The three men spoke of the despair they saw of hungry Palestinians trying to have food. They also described the bad players taking advantage of the situation – including Hamas agents and gang members trying to harm people working with GHF, especially Palestinian inhabitants.

Murray gave Fox News Digital an overview of how the FDI and the GHF coordinate when it comes to keeping the bad actors to go out and let the civilians in need to go to the aid.

“From a security point of view, our goal is to provide a safe and secure help. Hamas works in this area.

He also said that Hamas’ threat was not that GHF staff take lightly.

Weimer echoes Murray’s feeling, saying that GHF staff “see Hamas in the background”, but their goal in the foreground is to get help from those who need it. He also granted the credit of the Zielinski team for having distanced the bad players who are trying to interfere with GHF’s mission.

“They are incredible because the number of people who are looking for food and who are looking for help can sometimes be overwhelming. I have never seen once to react to us in an excessive manner of what would be, I think of anyone, a very frightening situation,” Weimer said about Zielinski and his team.

Before the Zielinski team goes to work, they are generally given a TSAhal briefing on the security situation concerning the approximately 48 hours before their quarter of work. Zielinski told Fox News Digital that he had seen changes in secure distribution sites (SDS) over time due to the threats that exist in the region.

“We have already seen pistols before, there have been AKs before. There are grenades that took place,” Zielinski told Fox News Digital.

He also said that his team was looking for models, records them, then turns into information or materials of intelligence managers who can be used to catch bad players.

“We will see on the line that, okay, ‘hey, we have already seen this person, he looked very suspicious” and the next thing you know is a guy who has a pistol on him,” said Zielinski.

When asked what the American people should know about the reality on the ground in Gaza, the volunteers all said that it was important to do research.

Weimer told Fox News Digital that GHF’s media representations had upset him because they are “so far standing”. He said he had called home to tell his family that they shouldn’t “believe the media threw”.

“I suppose that is what I would say to the American people, you know, these people who are here, these military veterans who have lived a long honorable life, we will never be part of something (like) what I saw in the media,” said Weimer. “It makes me really sick, it’s so far.”

Zielinski stressed the passion for GHF volunteers for the work they do. He said that the people with whom he works in the enclave torn by war are trying to do everything possible to help civilians in need.

Since he started working in May, GHF has said that he has delivered more than 160 million meals to the Palestinians in need. The organization did not work in the most fluid environment. Despite terrorist threats and international criticism, GHF maintains its call to the international community to join its mission – to deliver food to those who need it.

“Everyone wants to help, and everyone sees the reward for having done it … We all like to do it,” said Zielinski.
