Alabama legislators praise the movement of space command

The space will be “the tip of the spear” in the next American conflict with China or Russia, and the delays in the construction of a secure registered office for the command of the American space put the nation at risk, said the president of armed house services, Mike Rogers, in Fox News Digital.

The Alabama republican said that the fight for several years to found the command of Colorado or Alabama cost the precious military time while adversaries widen their space arsenal. He argued that Huntsville – which has exceeded two national competitions – offers a cheaper site and a safer installation for the staff of 1,700 people supervising the American space war mission.

“We fight and earn wars according to the communications and the capacities we have in space,” said Rogers. “We don’t want to be disadvantaged with regard to adversaries like China.”

Rogers congratulated Donald Trump’s move on Tuesday to designate Huntsville as the permanent headquarters, saying that the decision was aligned with the competitions and magazines of the Pentagon. He said Trump “returned to fair objective results and has taken away its policy and that the national security of our country will be better because of this.”

Representative Dale Strong, R-Ala., Who represents Huntsville, echoes this view and stressed the selection process he looked at closely. “It’s a perfect match,” said Strong.

“You look at it, 21 categories have been assessed,” he said. Strong cited the secure footprint of Redstone Arsenal and the local infrastructure and argued that the process had been executed twice and supported by surveillance magazines.

Space command was created for the first time in 1985, was linked to American strategic command in 2002 and relaunched in 2019 as a separate command. It worked temporarily from Colorado Springs while the Air Force assessed the permanent sites.

According to Rogers, the original competition and a second review first classified Huntsville. He later argued President Biden kept the command of space in Colorado “for purely political reasons”, on objections within Air Force. “The only political maneuver was made by President Biden who, arbitrarily on the objection of his Air Force secretary, decided to leave it in Colorado Springs,” said Rogers. “It was a pure policy. Alabama is a red state, Colorado is a blue state.”

Strong said that several Air Force secretaries recommended Huntsville and that “politics has played a role” when the decision has changed. “When Joe Biden went to put it back and said, they do it in Colorado … I think politics played a role in it,” he said. “But again, it’s time to move forward. We are ready to go vertical.”

The leaders of Colorado argued that the displacement of the seat may disrupt operations.

Rogers argued that as a function of its operation, the Space command is not secure sufficiently. “Four of the five buildings in which they are right now are outside the basis and they are in commercial spaces,” he said. “It is a classified work. It must be inside the fence in a specific.”

Strong added that the temporary headquarters in Colorado is “nine and a half miles from the military base with zero force protection … It should be behind the wire.”

Space Command has worked from Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs since its creation in 2019. The representative Jeff Crank, R-Colo., Previously told Fox News Digital that Space Command HQ, nestled in Cheyenne Mountain, is already “one of the most secure” country. Being in the midst of the United States, he added, makes it more difficult for enemies to attack.

“From the point of view of survival, having this as an asset there too, is really important.”

The legislators said that the headquarters’ debate concerned more than real estate. “The truth is that we are entering future conflicts with major opponents, the space will be the tip of the spear,” said Rogers.

Strong said it frankly: “Our next war will not attack the beaches of Normandy. It will start in space. And we must neutralize these threats immediately when it happens.”

The command is responsible for military operations in space, including the defense of satellites in the country, and will play a major role in the coordination of the Golden Dome missile Defense Project.

Chinese and Russian progress has left the United States open to vulnerabilities in space. While opponents are increasing offensive spatial weapons, satellites who feed everything, from general practitioners to global communications are threatened. Rogers argued that the United States has closed gaps since 2019 when Trump got up Space Force.

“We now have very adequate defensive capacities,” he said. “And we have offensive capacities that we did not have at the time. For our opponents to know that if they had to disturb our space assets, we can wipe the wholeirs, then no.”

The Biden administration said that maintaining the headquarters of Colorado has avoided the disturbance while command has reached full capacity, and those responsible for Colorado – Democrats and Republicans – argued that the existing aerospace ecosystem of the State, proximity to Norad and the workforce made it the logical place. Huntsville, however, houses the Marshall Space Flight Center in NASA and is a major center for Defense Entrepreneurs.

Governor Jared Polis described this decision as “deeply disappointing” and the members of the State Congress Delegation warned that a relocation could weaken the preparation and unstable the families of the military.

Strong said that he respects his Colorado colleagues, but thinks that the debate has dragged quite a long time. “Huntsville was the legitimate winner, and I will defend them to my last breath,” he said.

The two legislators underlined a government government report which revealed that Moving Space Command To Redstone would save $ 462 million.

At the same time, an inspector general report of the Pentagon confirmed that if the Air Force favored Huntsville on the basis of costs, the leadership of Espacemom warned that the move would involve risks of preparation – no longer because it could take up to four years to establish a secure installation in Alabama and that many civil staff members could come out of employment.

Rogers and Strong Argue Huntsville offer savings and a deep bench force. Strong stressed that the “45,000 acres, behind Redstone’s wire”, and the Huntsville talent pipeline. “We are sitting here with the greatest number of doctoral students and engineers across the country,” he said. “You look at the University of Alabama in Huntsville … 80% of graduates never leave this community because of the quality of life we have.”

“The construction cost is more economical in Alabama, the cost to be maintained is more economical in Alabama,” added Strong.
