Adams tears Mamdani for having jumped the nypd funeral to the launch of his mayor campaign

The mayor of New York, Eric Adams, has torn his opponent Democratic mayor Zohran Mamdani for having attended the funeral of the officer killed from the NYPD Didarul Islam last week – but by jumping services for other fallen officers killed during his stay in the State Assembly – and never publicly recognizing their death.
Adams, a former NYPD captain, suggested that Mamdani’s presence at the funeral of Islam was politically motivated and incompatible with his previous position on the police – which included calls to finance the agency and slam it as a racist. Mamdani has since backed away these declarations.
“We lost officers before presenting himself to the mayor. Where was he? He felt that these officers deserved to be raised when he was now lifting Islam officer during the elections? We must ask, where was he?” Adams told journalists at the town hall on Monday, according to the New York Post.
“You should raise officers when you do not run for the mayor. He could have lifted them when he was assembled. He could have done it over the years he was in Albany.”

Mamdani, a socialist who has been used in the New York State Assembly since January, has not attended the funeral of six of the best in NYPD who died in the exercise from 2022 to March of this year, said Adams.
“None times (Mamdani) said something in response to a police officer who has been shot or killed,” said Adams, highlighting the murder in 2022 of the Wilbert Mora officers, Jason Rivera. “We cannot find a tweet he made, or a comment he made when it happened.”
In addition to Mora and Rivera, the Jonathan Diller of the NYPD, Troy D. Patterson, Lawrence Bromm and the crossing Guardi Krystyna Naprawwa were all killed during this period.
Mamdani shorted off his recent trip to Uganda and returned early to attend the funeral of Islam. He first went directly to the family’s home and stayed with them for two hours, compared.

Fox News Digital contacted the Mamdani team to comment but did not immediately receive an answer.
Islam was shot dead by the alleged shooter Shane Tamura de Las Vegas last week in the hall of the office tower at 345 Park avenue in Manhattan. Tamura would have killed three other people in the outburst before turning the pistol on itself.
Mamdani first took the share of X to share its condolences on the death of Islam.
“I have a broken heart to learn the horrible shooting in Midtown and I hold the victims, their families and the NYPD officer in critical condition in my thoughts. Recognizing for all our first stakeholders on the ground,” posted Mamdani on X.

But the Ugandan legislator was a vocal critic of the NYPD in the past.
In a post of June 8, 2020, Mamdani wrote: “No, we want to finance the police”, and he wrote that “the queer liberation means finance the police” in a post of November 5, 2020.
“We do not need an investigation to know that the NYPD is racist, anti-Queer and a major threat to public security. What we need is #defundthenypd. But your agreement with (the mayor of New York) uses budget tips to keep as many cops as possible.
In December of the same year, he also called for him to be “dismantled”.
“All this misery. Everything for money. In the last budget, the municipal council tried to ensure that the NYPD reduces its extension budget half. They simply refused. There is no negotiation with such a wicked and corrupt institution. Found it. Make it to the cycle of violence,” he wrote.
However, he sang a different melody during a debate by the mayor in his primary.

“I will not finish the police. I will work with the police because I believe that the police have an essential role to play in the public service, public security,” he said.
On the website of his campaign, he calls for the creation of a Ministry of Public Security.
“The police have an essential role to play. But at the moment, we are counting on them to face the failures of our social security net – which prevents them from doing their real work. Thanks to this new municipal agency and a total approach to the government, community security will be prioritized like never before in New York,” said the website.
