AAP challenges CDC advice with a vaccine recommendation cocvid for children

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) no longer recommends the COVVI -19 vaccine for children – but a large medical group goes against these directives.

On Tuesday, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) published its latest annual immunization calendar for children – and it includes vaccines for COVID -19, in addition to flu and RSV.

“Infants and children of 6 to 23 months run the highest risk of severe COVID-19,” said the AAP in his release.

“Given this, the AAP recommends a COVVI-19 vaccine for all children aged 6 to 23 months to help protect against serious illnesses.”

The AAP also recommends a “single dose of the COVVI-19 vaccine adapted to age” for children and adolescents and the oldest who run a high risk of severe cocovi, have never been vaccinated before and who live with people who run a high risk of serious illness.

“The AAP also recommends that the vaccine be available for children aged 2 to 18 who do not fall into these risk groups, but whose parent or tutor wishes to have the protection of the vaccine,” the statement said.

“Among the reasons, we have decided to move on to a risk-based recommendation for healthier children in good health is the fact that the hospitalization rate for young children and children suffering from underlying medical conditions remains high, in accordance with the rates for many other vaccine preventable diseases for which we will vaccinate,” said Sean O’Leary, MD, Chairman of the AAP Committee on Infectious Diseases, in the version.

Instead of a universal recommendation, the CDC updated orientations require “shared clinical decision -making”, in which parents and doctors discuss the advantages and risk of vaccination for each individual case.

“When the parent presents the desire that his child is vaccinated, children of 6 months and more can receive a COVID-19 vaccination, informed by the clinical judgment of a health care provider and personal preferences and circumstances,” said CDC directives.

In total, the AAP calendar includes vaccinations against 18 diseases, recommended for all children from birth to 18 years old.

The AAP noted in a press release that its vaccine calendar “differs from recent recommendations from the CDC immunization advisory committee”.

The other updates included imply the vaccine against pentavalent meningococcus, the starting age of the human papillom virus vaccine and the elimination of a hepatitis vaccine which is no longer available, indicates the release.

Dr. Marc Siegel, a senior medical analyst of Fox News, said that for high -risk children, co -via vaccines “made a lot of sense.”
