Three people died and 10 others injured after a mass shooting broke out in a popular nightclub in the Turkish islands and caïcos early Sunday morning, an attack calls the first of its kind on British territory.

The Royal Turkish and Caicos police forces said the shooting had taken place just before 3 am on July 27 at the Hargured and the Lounge Cigar in Providencial. According to investigators, at least four suspects were involved in the attack, although no arrest was made on Tuesday.

Police commissioner, Fitz Bailey, described the incident as “deeply disturbing” in a press release to the Associated Press.

During a press briefing, Prime Minister Charles Washington Misick linked the shooting -related violence to the gangs and noted that a large part of the activity seems concentrated in the Haitian communities. He urged the members of these communities to cooperate with the police and to identify how illegal firearms enter the country.

“What we are witnessing is unprecedented,” said Misick. “This level of violence is not something that we can make it possible to become normal. This is not a situation that we must accept. It is not a generic situation, and we will do everything possible to eliminate it.”

Authorities have confirmed that 10 people were transported to hospital after the attack. Seven remain hospitalized with various degrees of injury, and a person is in serious condition. Two victims were transported by plane abroad for advanced treatment, and the local hospital was placed on locking to secure the premises and protect the wounded.

In a statement published on its official Facebook page, the Royal Turkish and Caicos police forced the shooting and urged the public to help the investigation.

“This incident highlights the ability and the will of criminals to commit serious acts of violence against our citizens, our residents and our visitors,” the statement said. “The police urge anyone with information to continue to associate with us to translate these criminals into justice.”

A reward of $ 10,000 is offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. The authorities have not yet identified clear reason.

Prime Minister Misick reassured the public that the government fully supports the police and stressed the importance of unity and resolution in the face of such violence.

“My government is 100% behind the police. It is important that we do our best to stem violence,” he said. “At the same time, I want to appeal to the general public not to panic. We must not, like the commissioner, the commissioner, withdraw or curl up in front of those who want to depolish the good reputation of our islands.”

The tragedy intervenes in the midst of the renewed efforts of the Turkish government and caicos to combat illegal immigration.

“Let me pursue in pursuit,” added Misick. “We now see gangland killers. Much of this gang violence seems to be concentrated in our Haitian communities.”

According to the United Nations Humanitarian Office, around 10,900 Haitians live in the Turkish islands and caicos, representing about a third of the total population. About 80% live on Providenciales, the most populous island in the territory, but only 20% have a permanent residence status.

“Whether it is a warning to everyone – those who know nothing and say nothing, those who help and encourage criminals, and those who commit crimes,” warned Misick. “This government is committed to ensuring that the Turkish islands and caicos remain a safe place to live and raise families.”
