Your genetic makeup could be the reason why you don’t lose weight.
New research from Harvard Th Chan School of Public Health and Ben Gurion University in Israel revealed that a third of people who have followed a healthy diet had not lost weight – although they have undergone health benefits.
Participants presented “significant improvements” of cardio-metabolic markers, including improved cholesterol, lower hunger leptin levels and less visceral fat, which is “deep inside” of the abdominal cavity, according to a press release.

The study, published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, analyzed weight and health changes for 761 individuals in Israel who had abdominal obesity.
During three trials, participants were assigned to specific healthy regimes – such as fats, low in carbohydrates, Mediterranean and Green -Mediterranean – for 18 to 24 months.

In all clinical trials, 36% of participants reached “clinically significant” weight loss, while 36% reached moderate weight loss. 28% additional have lost no weight or even gained weight.
Those who were resistant to weight loss, mainly elderly and women, showed the same health improvements as participants who lost weight.
Scientists may have discovered why books returned after losing weight
“We have been conditioned to assimilate healthy weight loss, and weight -resistant individuals are often qualified as failures,” wrote Anat Yaskolka Meir, member of the Harvard Chan School epidemiology department, in a statement.
“Our results reframe how we define clinical success,” he added. “People who do not lose weight can improve their metabolism and reduce their long -term risk of disease. It is a message of hope, no failure.”

The study, funded by the German Research Foundation, had certain limits.
The majority of participants were men, noted the researchers, adding that similar studies should focus on women in the future.

Dr. Philip Rabito, endocrinologist and weight loss specialist in New York, told Fox News Digital in an interview that the study results support what he experienced in his own practice.
“There are probable genetic factors that affect an individual’s ability to lose weight,” said the doctor, who was not involved in the study. “If simply indicated, despite similar efforts, calorie restrictions and lifestyle interventions, some patients lose more weight than others.”

Some people will not respond “as robust” to interventions as others, although this can be overcome with correct advice, according to Rabito.
“With advice, dedication and adhesion appropriate to a lifestyle program, all patients should be able to assess weight loss,” he said.

“With advice, education and an appropriate structure in a complete weight loss program, all patients can obtain significant results,” said a doctor. (istock)
“Even if there is a minimum or not weight loss, the study shows that there are still improvements in health parameters simply by participating in a weight loss program.”
For those who do not lose weight with traditional weight loss programs, prescription drugs can be an option, he added.

“It is a real combination of genetic factors, and it affects metabolism, appetite, fat storage and the diet and exercise response,” he said in a separate interview with Fox News Digital.
Based on emerging research, Neto noted that the treatment of obesity can be more easily personalized, allowing people with genetic setbacks to achieve their fitness objectives.

“If you have the marker for” Hungry Brain “and take the GLP-1, you maximize your weight loss up to 20%,” said the doctor.
“Obesity is a chronic disease, it is progressive and so far, we have no remedy, but we get more and more information to control them in a personalized manner.”
